Song of Longing

If I were blind, I would love everyone. It is not because of you, who sleep in my arms, that I feel love. I love my twin sister, who was born lifeless, and I love her by fantasizing her alive at my age. You, my love, what is your name? Tell me where you live, tell me where you dwell, tell me if you are alive or if you were already born. I love that white hand hanging from the railing of the galley, setting off in search of other galleys lost in faraway seas. I love a smile I think I saw in the light of the end of the day, among the hurried people. I love those beautiful women who, indifferent, passed by me, and my eyes never stopped on them again. I love the cemeteries – the graves are thick transparent windows, and I see, lying in flowery beds, virgins naked, beautiful women laughing at me. I love the night because in the fading light, the indecisive silhouettes of women are like the indecisive silhouettes of women who live in my dreams. I love the moon on the side I’ve never seen. If I were blind, I would love everyone.
