SEC-S16W2 | My Trip to a Museum or Zoo

Cameroon has several Natural parks that tell a lot of stories about the country's history. For example the Mefou National Park, Limbe Wildlife Centre, Lobeke National Park, Waza National Park, etc. While many can sometimes categorize this park as a Zoo because of the presence of animals. They are not a zoo, but a sanctuary for these animals.

These locations are protected by the government to help reduce the rate of extinction of some of these species. The local community has made it a habit of hunting this animal for food. Most of the time, the adult animals are targeted creating a community of orphans in the area. So the government needed to create a home for these orphans, whose parents had been killed by hunting.

Tell us about your trip to a Museum or Zoo. What's the place's name?

I am fortunate to have paid a visit to the Limber Wildlife Center. As I mentioned above, most Cameroonians call it a Zoo. The understanding is that animals are kept and cared for. I have even read Cameroonian steemians create content calling the Limbe Wilfe Canet a Zoo.

Limbe Wilfe Canter is a Sanctuary and not a zoo. Animals in a zoo are intentionally put together by the government to take care. That is not the case with most of the Wildlife centers in Cameroon. Most animals are either orphans from the wild or lose their parents to the traps set by hunters. In the case of the Limbe Wildlife Center, is currently the home of the Gorillas that were smuggled to Malaysia. Sheila and the other three gorillas were repatriated back to Cameroon in 2005. At Limbe Wildlife Center, you also fine 17 years Adjibolo, whose family was killed, and the hunter tried to sell her.

The prices to have access to the Wildlife Center vary for different age groups, nationalities, and numbers of persons. It is also possible to make special arrangements at a moderate price. These prices might not be as accurate at the moment, because It has been over four years since last the sanctuary.

Which animals or exhibitions do you like more? State your reasons.

The most interesting animal in the Limbe Wildlife Center for me is the Chimpanzee. It is the most populated spice at the center. They are the only animals that show some level of aggressiveness when they see visitors. While the others seem calm, and mind their business. The chimpanzee makes the highest noise in the center and makes the visitor have fun.
