Good day beautiful women of this platform, I am here again to tell you all about my visit to a Masquerade festival in Ogbomosho, Oyo State.
First and foremost I would like to to tell you what and why masquerade festival is being celebrated. Masquerade festival is been performed in many countries in the world including Nigeria, A masquerade is called Egungun in Yoruba land which is one of the major ethnic groups that celebrates the type of festival in Nigeria. Yoruba people believes that celebrating the masquerades, they do so in rememberance of the dead and uplifting the culture since olden days.

This particular one I want to tell you guys about is done in my friend's family house in Ogbomosho in Oyo State and the name of the masquerade is calle "Dana Fojura" which means the one who is capable of of swimming or walking in fire. The name was generated because whenever the masquerade is out it always shout "cold" and they quickly quenches the cold with fire. While the masquerade is out there are some people who always carry dry weeds along behind it to sustain the fire whenever in needs of it. And there's a particular water concortion that all of the family needs to use in washing legs, hands and face before seeing and following the masquerade. The water contains mixture of some herbs and pepper but only members of the family can pertake in it so that it won't have any side effect.
At first when the masquerade came out it went out to all the houses in the neighborhood and from there into the town followed by many people both families and outsiders which I am one of them and later followed them to the popular king's palace named "Soun's palace" (don't worry my people the king story "Soun" is a story for another day) and the masquerade displayed in there and that was where I departed from them because I was so tired. They continued their journey back to the town and back home.
I hope you guys enjoyed my story, but before I go let me share some of the interesting pictures I took with you.
