MY ROOTS
My roots can be traced back to the Igbo tribe in the Eastern region of Nigeria, West Africa. My tribe is spread across the Southern Eastern region and there are about five dialects of my languages according to each region. We are popularly known as the tribe of beauty and wealth as every traditional/local attire represents what we stand for as a tribe.

MY LOCAL DRESS

My local attire consists of coral beads, fur, Lace, hand woven raffia purses and horse tails. The coral beads symbolizes the beauty and elegance of my tribe. Women from my tribe adorn themselves with coral beads on their hair, ears, neck, wrist, waist and ankle. The fur symbolizes strength and affluence as men buy furs for their wives and daughters to show the world how much they can take care of their households. The local women weave the purses for themselves to signify how creative and crafty they can be. The horse tails are meant for chiefs and leaders of the tribe which signifies authority by tradition.

The Lace depicts feminism. Local women wear laces to show their soft sides and look spectacular while doing so. We wear Lace occasionally to events like weddings and other social gatherings that we are invited to in other to show how simple but elegant we can be.

COST OF MY LOCAL DRESS
The beads in total cost around 3-5 Steem. The fur cost 2 Steem. The Lace cost about 1 Steem per yard of cloth and this depends on how many yards your may need to sew your desired style of dress. I used 4 yards of lace for my dress. The hand woven raffia purse cost about 0.50 Steem for a sizable one. The horsetail cost 1 Steem.
The beauty of my local dress is in our ability to beautify the things people find as ordinary. We take pride in taking care of our own and making sure that we look out for our neighbors in the long run.
