See How I Decorated this Vanilla Birthday Cake 🍰 : Buttercream Frosting

Welcome to my blog. I'm excited to be here. It's been a rainy weather here, cold day in, day out. Today, I will be sharing how I frosted and decorated a vanilla birthday cake using buttercream.

Cake frosting can be both fun and tasking . It brings out the creativity in you. Frosting with buttercream (or buttericing as also called) is easy to work with, it can just be messy if you are not skillful with it.

Different patterns combined in different colours and styles can be created with buttercream.


CRUMBCOATING

After baking the two layered vanilla cake the previous night, it had cooled before the next day.
First,I sandwiched both with some buttercream in between them.

Before I continue, let me explain how buttercream is made.
To make buttercream it's quick simple and quick.

  1. Measure 300g butter into a bowl
  2. Cream till fluffy with mixer or spatula
  3. Sift 1 kg of icing sugar in a separate bowl and add into the cream gradually.
  4. Add 3 tbsp of water and mix.
  5. Add 1 tsp of flavour ( vanilla or butterscotch)

And your buttercream is ready. Buttercream should be moist, soft and light. Not thick ,dry or hard.

Next, I crumbcoated with some buttercream.

I wanted orange and a touch of green, so I divided the cream into 3 different portions. Added green to little portion, orange to the bigger portion, and left the biggest portion unchanged, which is the original cream colour.

FROSTING


I scooped some cream in a piping bag, I piped round on top of cake , smoothen with palette knife. And I began to pipe vertically along the height of the cake all round, then smoothen with the smooth side of the decorating comb. This gives a smooth frosting as seen below👇

DECORATING

  • Doing a Water mark design
    I picked little green cream and pasted it at intervals with my small palette knife. I smoothened off with same comb.

  • Next I decorated the edges with round nozzle in small shell designs with orange colour, as shown below.

  • Did some orange rosettes on half top of the cake to meet with the top shell design.

  • Placed chocolate balls alternately on the rosettes, add sprinkles on the other rosettes.

  • Finally, wrote on the cake " August Celebrants" in green colour . This was the inscription the customer wanted. Then I added some green leaves.

Birthday Cake Frosted & Decorated

I boxed the cake and sealed off the box sides with transparent cellotape. This helps to keep it intact and protected against dust.

And the Cake is ready for delivery!
