Good evening steemians. I am glad to share with you my favorite festival. Thank you @njaywan for given me the opportunity to take part in this exciting contest. I am grateful

Africa is blessed with so many traditional festivals. Each festival is unique in its own way.

Festival is a community gathering, usually organized by a local community, which centers on some unique aspect of a community.

It is celebrated to glorify culture, heritage and traditions. They are meant to rejoice special moments in our lives with our loved ones. It is an important event to socialize and connect us with our families and friends.

In Ghana, there are so many traditional festivals being celebrated on special days.

Ashanti is an ethnic group in Ghana. It is the most dominant ethnic group in Ghana.

Ashanti people celebrate many traditional festivals and one of them is the AKWASIDAE festival.

Akwasidae is celebrated on Sundays, once every six weeks, which is 9 times in every year.

It is celebrated to commemorate ancestors.

During Akwasidae festival, the chiefs honor persons and community ancestors. A gathering occurs in which drumming, dancing and singing are a normal celebration to honor lesser gods and spiritually ancestors. The main food offered during the festival is mashed yam, garnished with hard-boiled eggs.

That day, the King of Ashante meets his subjects and subordinate chiefs in his palace( which is Manhyia palace) The Golden Stool is displayed at the palace grounds in the presence of the king, and people visit in numbers, singing and dancing.

The king goes in a procession in a palanquin decorated with gold jewelry. He then holds a durbar on the occasion, and people are free to shake hands with the king. He also witnessed a colorful parade from his palace grounds. Participants of the parade are drum beaters, dancers, horn-blowers and singers.

Because the festival is celebrated to pay respect to ancestors, the king visits the Mausoleum and offers worship to his ancestors' stools and the skeletal remains of his ancestors.

Akwasidae gives the opportunity to meet and shake hands with the king, the chiefs and friends. It's a day to remember the ancestors who toiled their blood for the kingdom. It's also a day for enjoyment since drumming, singing and dancing are held.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Ghana has rich culture and one of it is Akwasidae. I have witnessed it once. In fact it was awesome. The dancing, drumming and the whole set up was cunning. I have learnt a lot from this post and I really enjoyed reading it. You have tackled all the salient points, well articulated, good write up. I wish you the best in the contest. Steem on friend

Thank you

I particularly like to see this festival in typical traditional societies. It is truly representative of our ghanaian culture.
