There have been a number of speculative bubbles throughout history
which have left many destitute investors in their wake- the tulip craze in
Holland and the Beanie Baby bubble in the United States come to mind.
Many Bitcoin detractors have been keen to make comparisons, but there
is a key difference- Bitcoin brings serious productivity gains over legacy
systems, while in the case of Beanie Babies or tulips, the value was
based purely on speculation.
