Basic and Natural Structures of Human Tooth

Structures of the Tooth
In the contemporary time of ours there is no way we would be talking about structures of the tooth without laying emphasis to conservative dentistry otherwise known as operative dentistry. Conservative dentistry is the restoration of the defect part of the tooth to give room for preservation and function. In this post I am going to give brief and concise description of some the
anatomical structures, then in the subsequent posts I will make full description for each of them for a clear and better understanding so stay tuned and be ready
1- ENAMEL
Enamel is the is the most resistive tissue ever known in the human physical structure. Enamel when loss cannot be regenerated. The reason behind this is that enamel forming cells were degenerated during tooth development(amelogenesis) and do not persist hence its inability to repair itself in case of any trauma .
2- DENTIN
Dentin is the most densed mineralized connective tissue of the tooth forms the hard tissue portion of the dentin- pulp complex. One interesting thing about dentin is that is present in both the crown root portion of the tooth unlike the enamel which is present only in the crown.
3- DENTAL PULP
As we all know dental pulps are usually identified as microcirculatory system consists of arterioles and venules as the largest vascular component. Due to the presence of the specialized cells it is able to produce dentin and ensure the adequate vitality of the teeth if not infected.
4- PERIRADICULAR TISSUES
Peri means (surrounding) and radicular means (root). These were among a group of dental tissue known as periodontium except for the gingiva which is not among.
1- Cementum
Cementum is a tender protector found in the root portion which houses the dentin.
2- Periodontal ligament
The periodontal ligament are made up of the following components:
I. Periodontal fiber
II. Cells
III. Blood vessels
IV. Nerves
3- Alveolar bone
It is an important structure as regards tooth shedding and exfoliation owing to its resorptive capacity. It is majorly comprised two components which are : Cells and Intercellular matrix

  1. Cells present in bone are:
    a. Osteocytes(bone cells)
    b. Osteoblasts
    c. Osteoclasts
    Intercellular matrix:
Inorganic matter is composed mainly of the minerals calcium and phosphate along with hydroxyapatite, carbonate, citrate, etc. and the organic mainly consists of fibrous protein.
So, I will be stopping here for now any question is highly welcomed.
In conclusion, anyone is free to ask me any question regarding medical courses or dental stuffs.
Thanks for taking your time to read this.
