Contest # 1 | Steem Library | Favorite Book Genre | Entry by: @sanyazulfiqar

Although I am a mystery buff, when it comes to favorite genre, it has to be fantasy fiction. The genre of my obsession - Harry Potter (by Queen JK Rowling). Books for me are much more than merely reading a story. It is a gate to another world, where I can escape after a looong, hectic day. And what could be the best way to do so other than reading a fantasy?
Bookworms waiting for their Hogwarts letter to arrive, even after crossing age eleven is not surprising. Being one such nerd, and blaming the local courier for misplacing my letter, I am guilty of getting a duplicate and flaunting it on my bookstagram. Beggers are not choosers, as they say!
If I have to list all the reasons why fantasy is undoubtedly the best genre to read, we may run out of space and world limit here so I will just state a few.
I simply CANNOT imagine the misery if a treasure like Harry Potter was a standalone and we would be robbed of the other six books. Especially, when the first book is not even the most favorite from the series (in case you were curious, it is The Half-Blood Prince). So many questions would have been left unanswered and we would probably not even have a fandom. The fantasy fiction supremacy upholds because they usually come in series (and cliffhangers teehee).
The characters AKA the life of the books (you may say it’s the plot but I am open to a debate) are more realistic and relatable in fantasy books than other genres. The irony! But why? In ‘most’ fantasy books I have come across, it commences with an ordinary character, living an ordinary life until he or she discovers a fantasy world and their life completely changes. There is a need to illustrate that commonality in their personality to show the contrast and their struggle feeling out-of-place at first and as a consequence, everything falling by the wayside. If Alina Starkov, from Shadow & Bone, knew she was the Sun Summoner from before, there would be no story. But, she was depicted as the lowliest of her cast, as ordinary as one can get - a map-maker (and a hopeless romantic too but that’s another story).
Not to stretch this post any longer, or diverge from the topic, I would just name one more reason for having a preference for fantasies. The author’s remarkable figment of imagination. Not to belittle another genres but how creative can one get with a contemporary? Fantasy reads are packed with ingenuity because they are an endeavour of creating something that does not even exist - new world of endless possibilities!
Thank you @hive-186627 for hosting this interesting contest!

It would be a lie, if I say that I never longed for a Hogwarts letter or for a stroll in the long corridors or to savour the feast in Great hall.
Loved reading your views about fantasy fiction. You are absolutely right about the strong characters and I believe the plots are even stronger in that genre. Main reason being the story divided into series which ultimately answers all our questions.
Very nicely written.
All the best.
Thank you @event-horizon! Oh how much I yearn dining at the Great Hall (especially during Halloween)!
Thankyou for your participation!
Approved!
