Hello my dear Steemians,

This account should be reflecting study that is why I decided to use it to share my experience and also my progress with a new learning that I decided to start about month ago. You might remember that we love the Netherlands and we are often travelling through this wonderful country on the way to Germany. That is why this time I thought that it would be good to learn Dutch language and at least to be able to exchange simple words or casual conversation.

While being on holiday I looked through multiple different way of learning, nowadays there are variety for everyone as we are all learning differently. I thought about a book but then about online lessons and finally I came across this teaching which is free of charge and also has videos with explanation and also pronunciation.

The teaching is done by Bart de Pau and here is the link to his website if you are interested too:

https://www.learndutch.org/lessons/introduce-yourself-in-dutch/

Yesterday I did the first exercise and that is an introduction, that helps us to Introduce ourselves.

For those of you, who are German speakers many words and sentences will be sounding familiar, especially when it is quickly pronounced but often when we see how they are written, then it is difficult to read but we just need to know how to read and that will make it easy.

How to Introduce yourself

When we introduce ourselves we usually say:

“My name is” and that is in Dutch: "Ik heet" (“ee” pronounced as “ay“ as in hail )

„I am“ is „Ik ben“ which is much easier to speak as it is written

article „a“ is „een“ (do not forget that it should be pronounced “ayn“

„The“ you can use both „de“ and „het“

„The man“ is „de man“

„The woman“ is „de vrouw“, actually the word sounds like a German language "frau" but the writing is completely different.

„the boy“ is „de jongen“

„the girl“ is „het meisje“

„the house“ is „het huis“ in this words „ui“ is pronounced as "ou" in "out"

I hope that I will stay persistent and learn the words regular. My goal is to be able to speak casual Dutch next summer.
I will keep you updated on this blog on my progress.
