The Screen Addict Recommends – Icons
The label “iconic” gets thrown around too easily these days, it has sadly become a buzz-word for pseudo-experts on talk shows and in TikTok posts.
Trust me – very few things are 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 iconic.
Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal and Earvin “Magic” Johnson Jr. most definitely 𝘢𝘳𝘦 icons though, and you can now stream three excellent documentary series in which that point is firmly illustrated.
Netflix, Apple TV+ and HBO Max have all jumped on the basketball bandwagon with 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬), 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮) and 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗾 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮) respectively.
Each doc is equally insightful, moving and deliciously entertaining. Try not to binge ‘em in one sitting, I dare you.
I’d love to see the other platforms join in on the fun, so how about a Larry Bird documentary, Prime Video & MGM Studios? You’ve already proven to be basketball aficionados with Ben Affleck’s awesome 𝗔𝗶𝗿 (𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯), Bird feels like a natural follow up for that – pun intended.
And perhaps Disney+ can complete the deck with series about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Wilt Chamberlain? I’d definitely watch that.
Either way…
Seek ‘em out & get your fix.
