RE: Steemit.com - Coding In The Community

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago

Maybe there are people who receive some money for correcting the code and it is simply profitable for them to work for a long time and receive money?

But in addition to fixing bugs, development is needed ... which is impossible without fixing bugs. The circle is closed ...

I don't think there's any profit to be made by maintaining the existing codebase. I suspect that when Justin Sun bought Steemit, he expected the existing development & developers to stay and for things to continue. Having no idea what was on the horizon. I found this profile today - notice the 4 resteems of developers resigning on the same day. Then they've suddenly got a codebase and nobody to work on it.

In most companies, there are 2 teams for this. One for BAU (Business As Usual) whose responsibility it is to keep the existing site ticking along. Then there's a "Change" function - responsible for enhancements and new functionality. I have no idea how Steemit / Tron handle this. The developer that I'm aware of is probably trying to do everything on his own.

Yes, I think it was a surprise for Justin. The developers took offense and left. This is a verdict for the platform if you do not create a new development team and invest in development of additional funds.

Judging by the results and the technical state of the platform, the development team does not exist now. Some of the remaining ones seem to be trying to fix current bugs. But it's like patching holes in a leaking roof after every rain. At a time when the roof needs a major overhaul or a complete replacement with a new one.

It all looks pretty bad.

It all looks pretty bad.

By writing this post and the discussions it has prompted. there are reasons to be optimistic. Hopefully, I'll be able to write another post about it within the next couple of days so it's not all doom and gloom. Stay tuned 🙂

It's not even your post. It is correct and necessary and write the next one. This must be done.

But lately I have fallen into a kind of lethargic state. When you see that your efforts go to the sand like water ...
I'm not even talking about becoming a killer whale here or something else. You just need interest and some kind of return on your efforts. I even find it difficult to find new members of the support program.
I remember how glad I was when I was supported at the beginning of my journey (although it was not the very beginning, but after about a year, but I was still nothing).

I want something new and alive. At the same time, it seems that everything freezes on the platform. Maybe the beginning of winter affects me and everything is fine with the platform? Then I just need a rest))

Sometimes I feel the same. I want more from Steemit than it can give me. So I step away. Remember the things that I enjoy doing here and the people that I enjoy engaging with... "Enjoy what you have, don't be concerned by what you don't."
