💬 Promoting WOX's Top Commenters - Supporting Steemit's Vision Week #1
In my recent post discussing the topic of online discussion, I asked the question about whether you wanted to see something change on Steemit to increase the level of engagement with posts. I also included a mini-contest which asked you to estimate the "quality" of the 55 comments received to the 146 posts which I'll cover at the end of this post.
Response to my Post
The response was overwhelming and the post has received 60 comments (to date) which demonstrates the kind of engagement that Steemit is capable of. There was a mixture of thoughts shared from the understanding that many users are here to simply promote themselves and earn some money, to outpourings of frustration from users who take the time to comment and receive nothing back. Some of the latter group to the point at which they have nearly stopped commenting altogether.
I tend to associate myself with the latter group and already had in the back of my mind that I wanted to do something about it. Let those that want to come here, post their interests and leave to do exactly that but work harder to help those that want more engagement - more "Social" in this "Social Media".
So World of Xpilar is launching a new initiative to support Steemit's vision of...
"... a vibrant communities web app, expanding the boundaries of community coordination and online discussion by incorporating cryptocurrency as incentives."
...and to help those users that want to engage to get more out of their time on Steemit.
💬 WOX's Top Commenters
The new initiative has been long in the thinking and is officially launching today - with the backing of an initial 1,000 Steem from me, 500 Steem from @xpilar and 500 Steem from @levuef.
Top Commenter Delegations
Each week (on a Thursday), I will be reviewing the comments on 7 days worth of posts and will apply a complex and highly secretive algorithm to them in order to identify World of Xpilar's Top Commenters for the week. The only clues to the algorithm that I'll share is that every language is included, "Nice post, keep it up" won't help you (it might even hinder you 🤔) and it's not all about the Whales 🐳
These Top Commenters will receive a share of the 2,000 Steem as a delegation for the week, which will be cancelled and reassigned the following week (unless each user remains a top commenter).
E.g. "King Commenter" will receive a 1,000 Steem delegation, "Good Commenter 1" and "Good Commenter 2" will each receive a 500 Steem delegation.
This will give you the added benefit of stronger voting power and increase the curation rewards that you will receive.
Top Commenter Labels
In addition to this, we're also looking to increase voting support to members of our community committed to making it a more sociable place so we're also introducing a simple identifier that will be added to your existing label - "💬".
This will increase the visibility of your posts within this community and allow others to know that they're supporting a Top Commenting User.
There's no limit to the number of users that can receive this label and please also bear in mind that this label can be removed.
Hopes and Expectations
The hope is that through this new initiative we can promote a more sociable experience within World of Xpilar without penalising those that don't wish to take part.

As somebody who likes to get things moving quickly, I've already reviewed 7 days worth of posts and would like to congratulate @petface, @steem-venera and @serap who will receive the following delegations for the forthcoming week once you confirm your acceptance of this within the comments below.

Mini-Contest Result
The result of the 55 comments is as follows:
Low value (fewer than 10 words) - 32
Medium-low value (10 - 50 words) - 20
Medium-high value (50-100 words) - 3
High value (100+ words) - 0 (zero, none, nada, zilch)

This is an idea that leads to real communication in Steemit. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the birth of this idea by sharing their experiences and thoughts, especially you who started this initiative, and delegators, and of course World of Xpilar.
This thank you is not only on behalf of me, but also on behalf of everyone who takes the time to read and comment on the content in their fields of interest, asks questions, and hopes to receive comments on the content they share with enthusiasm. Sometimes we talk about some issues of our private life in our posts, sometimes we make jokes and sometimes we share our experiences. Upvote is of course motivating, but knowing that our post has been read, that is, knowing that we do not write into the space, is a greater motivation to continue.
I feel very happy to have been selected for top commenters. My first focus on Steemit was to make a circle of friends who are interested in art. I love painting and I had the chance to meet and communicate with many artists here. This delegation has been a gift for me from my communication with them.
I believe that there will be healthier and more intense communication between Steemit content creators, which will increase motivation for everyone.

Hi, friend. I liked your text. Yes, I am Russian, but I was born in Latvia. As a result, I don’t know the Russian language well. English too. But I know the Latvian language well. No one needs it. Although in Latvia a fine is imposed for not knowing the language. Starting from 50 euro.
Congratulations!! Is impressive how many people can interact here. My first language is Spanish and I soon learned that English can open many possibilities, primarily to get in touch with all the diverse cultures reunited in Steemit!

This is certainly a fantastic new initiative @the-gorilla It goes without saying that I’m 💯 in 🤝 Challenge accepted 🙌 I am really honoured and I do feel that I can now stand out from the crowd and make a difference here. I do believe that this new initiative will encourage more and more of us to read, comment and support one another which is to me what this platform is all about. 👸That’s very true @the-gorilla It’ll be hard work so let’s see how the others do really. Plus, the longer this initiative is on for, the harder it will become as we’re spreading the word about it now but very soon it’ll become crazy popular. I hope. I think I see it coming 🤞 Once you start receiving more comments on your posts, you cherries them and they make you feel special 🌎 So I’ll be glad if more members become comfortable and confident enough to comment on other users’ posts, even such members they haven’t even interacted with yet. It’s a great life skill really which pays of in the end. It just doesn’t take much to be nice and it’s normal to have questions too. Nobody knows everything, we learn here together 🙌

Every day is a school day here indeed and I like it 😊 You achieved so much in just 7 months @the-gorilla 👏 Steemit time goes by even faster if you ask me so your real 7 months can well be just 3 and a half Steemit months. So that’s even a greater achievement then how far you got in such a short time 🤝
It's certainly been busy - I'm doing a lot less now than I did in the early months - this was a lot of work which I eventually couldn't do as much of any more. I still do the odd bit but I was getting 100 notifications per day which destroyed my spirit! I guess it's gone so well because I've tried to change things for the better across the whole platform 🙂
Thank you for taking up this hard job. It is really time consuming and requires a lot of patients to go through many posts and comments.
I wish people will notice and act accordingly!

It is a big task that deserves a lot of effort, but it is worth rescuing and improving the interaction between the members of the community, encouraging the exchange of comments on each publication, avoiding that they just leave their publications and then log out immediately.

I'm doing something similar in my community since a few weeks so I can tell you that it really works but... manual reviewing comments from the last 7 days is a lot (really a lot!) of work. And we have only 120 active users. WoX has over 650...
you may need a help of another person, but the idea is great.
Extra icon in the label is cool and, if you are fine with that, I'd introduce it in my place too, with the annotation to WoX and tagging you as the original author.
Maybe we could introduce it in a whole platform, motivating that way others to be more active in the comments 🤔 I mean, at least in multiple communities.

Yes, I may have bitten of more than I can chew but I'll give it a go. If I do a little every day, then perhaps it won't be so daunting. @adeljose has kindly offered to help - he's already doing such a good job moderating within the community, I don't want to detract from what he already does 🙂
I'm happy with that - when the idea came up, it occurred to me that it would work well in other communities too so it'll be great to see it being used elsewhere 🙂

The idea is very good. I would delegate, But at the moment a very weak SP. I got it all out when splitting STEM from HIVI in 2019. I had to lower my SP. But now, when the project starts to develop, I think that we need to get up. I wish you a good night or day. I do not know which country you are from. If you are from Norway, then this is nearby. I'm from latvia. Good luck. I think the number of participants will increase. Truthfully, I did not understand what kind of consent was needed.

Sorry for the confusion - I didn't want us to delegate Steem to anybody without them knowing it was happening - for example you might be going on holiday for a week so the delegation would be wasted.

This is great. At the same time, when people come back to your comments days later, sometimes it means they remembered about you and your opinion all that time. I sometimes don't want to anwer because I know that I will have better words later - in a day or a week.
The initiative works
Yes, but when they have a direct system of rewards, things can become too fake. Commenting always was a way of attracting attention and maybe even good upvotes. Anybody could use it but not many did it. Now ...there will be many people who will talk bullshit just in hope to earn delegation... Let's see ...

😱 That certainly is a very good point and another way to look at it @datych Nobody wants a rushed job but I’m also used to being evaluated in response rate too so that’s why I just by default tend to think this way assuming that also makes a difference here on the platform 👩💻 I reckon it does really 🤔 There are exceptions of course.
Commenting for me is the way to be active here when I’m not posting. Let’s wait and see really. I totally get you that we might start seeing a higher number of comments for the sake of their quality. But I’m sure that @the-gorilla’s algorithm will pick it up easily and will not let such commenters take advantage of this initiative.

Once the scores are totalled up, I'll review the winning profiles for things I don't like (plagiarism. etc,) to be sure that no bad eggs slip through

I congratulate this initiative. There are times when you see large numbers of prizes in posts, however, there is no comment that tells you that someone reads or sees what you have written. I am particularly moved, in addition to the likes, by the appreciations of the people who visit me, and with this I know that I speak for many. Let's keep going @the-gorilla!

A large proportion of the interaction within this community is by the moderators and it'll be great to see more interaction amongst the rest of the community.
