My Actifit Report

written by @ultratrain

It was a beautiful day to be outdoors and enjoying Mother Nature and all her wonders. We skipped our normal morning miles and instead got an earlier start over in Granite Basin for a few miles on the quiet trails there. There were only a few cars in the parking lot and we were alone on our route which was very nice. Lulu was moving along nicely with just a few pauses when she spotted some critters off in the trees and a stop for a sip in one of the remaining wet spots.

Dialing Back in Time

written by @event-horizon

There was no telephone in our home in the 90s; it was some kind of a policy of the company where my dad worked - the residential landline was allotted after a certain seniority or designation. We(mostly Mom or Dad and sometimes all of us) used to walk to the club reception to make phone calls. The operator (named Latif) used to come to our home on his bicycle to inform us if we had a call from some relative. He always used to come with short messages like when the caller was expecting a call-back or if there was an emergency call.

One More Post About the Comet

written by @o1eh

I didn't mean to write more about comets, but I want to share with star lovers new information for me. Now it is clear to everyone that comet Pons-Brooks did not live up to expectations. It has not reached the predicted magnitude and it is quite difficult to see it. If you observe it with the naked eye, it is no different from a star. But to see even this "star" you need to find a very dark area, without light pollution. With binoculars or an amateur telescope, you have a much better chance of seeing a comet.

Useful beats truthful: Survival and repetition of ideas in the information ecosystem

written by @remlaps

Viewpoint: Utility trumps truth in the world of information: useful information survives and gets repeated, even if it's not accurate. Truthful information goes extinct if it's not useful. Background: About 20 years ago, I had the opportunity to participate in a corporate training program with a presentation from our company's chief scientist. One of the few things that I still remember from that training program was his assertion that within 10 or 15 years, "Everything that can be digitized will be digitized."

The Screen Addict | Carlito's Way

written by @thescreenaddict

Very much against popular consensus, I have always preferred Carlito’s Way (1993) to Scarface (1983). Don’t get me wrong – both films are sublime and masterpieces in their own right, but CW simply moves me more. I consider the films thematic siblings because of subject matter obviously, but also because of the creative team behind both productions – Al Pacino, director Brian De Palma and producer Martin Bregman.
