Wood-Burned Art: Dragon Song (Club100)

Hello everyone and welcome again to another showcase of uniquely wood-burned art!

We're enjoying a nice rainy day here as a brief warm-front brings a load of rain. Plenty of areas elsewhere in the state are getting snow and ice, but it's actually warmed up a bit today from yesterday and will be warmer yet tomorrow. Then, temperatures will plummet this weekend giving us one of the coldest Christmas' in the last few decades. Sadly, @jae5086 has a rare evening shift tonight and is not thrilled, particularly given the owner of the company got Covid and won't be there on top of having had their company party cancelled for the same reason and replaced with an emergency job. Nope, he's not happy at all.

This time around I have a "Dragon Song" tablet from the recent "House of the Dragon" TV series, a "Game of Thrones" spinoff airing on HBO Max. I thought the piece of wood used for this was great for making this piece and almost gives me a slight ten-commandments like feel because of the shape.

Other than the Calvin and Hobbes pieces I have been remaking since the art-show a couple weeks ago, I've not done a ton of color on my pieces, though I do have some new plans for art using the colored-foil trick I've done a lot of over this past year. Outside this piece, all of the x-mas commissions I've done were also colorless, straight pyrography pieces.

I used an oak stain on the whole slice of wood which naturally deepened the hue and gives a lovely rustic look. Understandably, this did change the color and I said I didn't color it but since this is applied like any other sealer, I didn't think it really applied. Typically, adding color means using specific methods to specific areas of the art, such as coloring the eyes, or adding highlights, that take up much more time. A simple stain like this is just rubbed on the piece ubiquitously and that's it, no artistic nature required.

The dragons on this piece were a part of a larger series I had been working on earlier in the month before the big show. I am sad that I had a fellow vendor interested in the piece on day one but never came back the second day despite me dropping the price in hopes of it enticing her. Since then, I got a take-down notification from Warner-Brothers, owners of the IP. I really didn't think the text alone would get such attention, as the dragons themselves in the art have nothing to do with the show. Oh well, they will go to our actual website instead of Etsy I guess. Otherwise, I will hope it sells whenever I do my next show!
