Steemit Engagement Challenge WOX S6W5: "Visual Art: New Year Eve in My Hometown"
Hello everyone and Happy Holidays if I don't get a chance to say so tomorrow. @jae5086 and I will be out of town for the next few days enjoying time with family. With our roommate also away visiting family, we just hope the cats don't cause too much trouble while they have the place to themselves. So, let's get this party started because we've got less than a half hour until we need to hit the road!
Because of @jae5086's sister's custody arrangement with one of her children, we have to do presents tonight. This is actually the first year we will be able to make it on Christmas Eve because, in the past, I always had to work and we couldn't make it on time. Now that I am a starving artist, I make the rules!
When I think of Christmas, two things come to mind: Presents and decorations! Every kid can't wait to wake up Christmas morning and see a bunch of gifts all wrapped up and piled below the tree. You know me though, I can't just make a drawing of presents under a tree. No no, that just wouldn't be my style. Instead, you get a jackalope all decorated because he thinks he's a tree! Hey, animals need to enjoy the holiday season too!
After tracing out the image and transferring it to a wooden canvas, I begin the burning process. It may not be pine or chestnuts roasting on an open fire, but the smell of burning wood is still pleasant and fits with the season.
I decided my jackalope tree needed a star but, well, I just can't be all traditional like that so, he gets a mysterious ever-burning flame above his head to help keep him warm and light his way at night.
It didn't seem like a good holiday themed piece without color. That just wouldn't be festive enough! So, I grabbed the colored pencils and went to work. After all, Christmas decorations and gift wrapped presents are all about color! I purposefully made it look cartoon like with the way I colored this piece. It made me think of classic Christmas cartoons like the Peanuts. Finally, the flame above his head was made with colored foil to make it a little different.

Hi @scratched-burnt, although this is nice motif but it does not meet the Topic, we wanted to know how people celebrate NY eve in their home town.

This is a good picture for a Christmas card, but unfortunately it does not meet the conditions of this competition, as it is about "Celebrating New Year's Eve in your city".
Your work is precious, a work of craftsmanship made with the pyrography technique. It's a pity it's not within the theme of the contest.
It's worth spending some time reading the contest rules, it only takes a few minutes.
