The True Reason For The Season: Sharing Love And Giving
Christmas has been remarked as a season where family, friends, and loved ones come together to celebrate love and joy. It is also a period where people engage in many fun activities, at least to wind up after having a very active year. However, one should not also forget the fundamental reason for the season - giving. The Yuletide is not for you to celebrate alone and focus on only you and yours alone, you need to also extend a hand of giving to others; the less privileged who may not have any hope of celebrating it. It is not what you have that brings you impact or creates fulfilment, but how many people that have benefited from you and how many lives you have affected positively especially by your acts of giving.
In this season, you can put smiles on the faces of people by extending love to them through giving. You can imagine how happy someone who had no hopes of celebrating the season will be when you have caused them to celebrate it by your givings. The truth is that no matter what you have or do not have, you can still be a channel of blessing to someone out there. Be the reason why someone will experience happiness this season and also watch as your own life will be happy. This is because you cannot create happiness in others without you being the first beneficiary and partaker of the happiness.
While growing up many years back, each time I travelled home during the festive season, my people normally organised a giveaway and charity for the less privileged in the community. During the event, foodstuffs were shared, cash gifts, edibles, and even clothing materials. You can imagine the happiness on the faces of those people - so adorable. After observing those acts of kindness, I also learnt it and I started doing the same and reaching out to people to be a blessing to them. There is a kind of feeling of fulfilment that comes to the soul when you know that you have been a blessing to others especially in this period that they need it most.
Whatever you are going to celebrate with this Yuletide, also make provisions for others in it. It may not be big and may not even be a large group of people, but let something from you drop to others. I have come to understand that the true idea of the Christmas season is embedded in the idea of giving and sharing love. However, you should also know that giving has to be done from the heart and not just from the hands, in order for it to count. Your generosity is not just a function of the material things that you have given but a function of your intentions, your heart, the joy your create, and the love that you share.
You may not share the same belief with someone, or have the same ideology or school of thought with them, but it does not mean that you cannot give to them as a way to bless them. No matter what languages people speak, there is one universal language that everyone can understand; this is the language of charity - giving. Your giving should be without a thought of expecting it in return, but should be rooted in your love for humanity. After all, we were first humans before we became any other thing. Let your acts of charity speak in this season and let it be very clear that even the deaf can hear it. As you journey through the festive season, let others feel your impact, because that is what humanity represents.
It is also worthy to note that you should not stop giving as soon as the Yuletide passes, but it should be a lifelong act - a lifestyle. Giving is not only reserved for when there is a celebration, but it should be part of you. Even after December, do not let your heart of kindness and act of giving pass away with the season. What makes you a better human is when you do good in and out of season. Remember that your goodness is not what you do once-and-for-all rather it should be a continuous act - what you do once and again.
