Live And Let Others Live
The joy of living is not living for oneself alone but living for others too. In your dealings with people, you have to consider others too, and note that you cannot possess the entire world, so you should also be considerate. The attitude of being considerate is one that is often overlooked but it is one of the pivotal attitudes that show our humanity. You should not live in a way that you should be concerned only about your own wellbeing while disregarding other people's wellbeing. As much as you wish good for yourself, you should also wish it for others.
There are some people that, when they pass a bridge, they would want to burn the bridge so that others will not pass - this is not living for others to live. If everyone was to burn bridges after them, do you think you would have made it this far in your life's journey? You will be surprised that it is the same person you met on your way out that will be of a help to you on your way in. You may not have much to offer, but the little you have should be used to express your heart of humanity to others. You do not have to occupy a top position before you live for others; even in your position, you can still live for others.
In your own capacity, how have you used your position to do good? Many people tend to blame others, particularly the leaders for certain occurrences, but they overlook their own major misdeeds. Obviously, it is the same thing that people do from their lowly state that they will replicate when they get to the top. Imagine someone cheating their chef, mistreating their domestic staff, or even shortchanging their workers, what will you expect when the person gets into a position of authority? Obviously, these acts of inhumanity will be amplified and they will extend it to others.
It is saddening that in this era, heart for humanity is dwindling in the minds of people. This is why you see people; instead of loving people and using material things, the reverse becomes the case. Living and allowing others to live is a sign of humanity. There are many ways in which you can prove your humanity and we will take a look at some of them.
The first point to consider is the act of following peace with people. There is no need for violence when you can live in peace with people. Even in the face of conflict, there will always be a peaceful way to resolve it without involving the use of violence. You cannot claim you want others to live too if you are always violent towards them. Your act of humanity is substantiated by the way you live in peace with others. Obviously, peace is the primary prerequisite for many other good things of life to thrive. This is why you have to make peace your closest ally. Living in peace does not mean that you will not have an opposite opinion from others but it means that you will be able to manage it well without allowing it to degenerate to violence or conflict.
Another area of life that also shows our humanity is in the way we show love through our givings. The truth is that there is no way you will effectively claim that you love someone or have a heart for humanity if nothing from you, in terms of material things, can be extended to them. If you see someone in time of need and you can comfortably afford what they need, do you turn your face aside or do you come through for them? The amount of material possession that you have is not what makes you a better human. What makes you a better human is how you have used the material possessions to become a blessing to someone else and to humankind at large.
Always have it in mind that the good you do to just a single soul will reverberate farther than you think and will become a good to all. You will be surprised how your acts of goodness to someone can become the salvation they need in this cruel world. Each time you have an opportunity to do good or show kindness, see it as an express call towards humanity. After all, we all can make the difference that we have long desired for by starting from our own corners to do our own bits.
