It Pays To Be Truthful

It does not matter how long a lie has been sustained, at the end, the truth will still manifest and may do so in manner that you cannot even expect. In a world where a lot of things are going in an "anyhow" way and lies keep being on the rise, the truth will become adorable and will prevail. You have to maintain your act of truthfulness even when you do not feel like it. Saying the truth and standing by it may not be convenient and may even cost you something in the present, but it will be worth it and the end result will be priceless.

When I was doing my internship during my time in the university, I was privileged to work in an organisation. In that organisation, the resumption time was 8:00am, but the staff needed to be in the office on or before 7:45am and fully signed in. If not, they will be surcharged and the fine will be taken from their salary at the end of the month. I noticed that what a lot of staff do is that when they come late, they would still sign 7:45am so that they will not be fined. I found it wrong and decided that I will not do it because it was an obvious lie. It was better to stand by the truth than to compromise for just temporary gratification.

In one of the days, I had a traffic challenge on the way and I came in about 7mins after the time. I came at the same time with a colleague and she still signed in 7:45am. Well, I signed the right time and was ready to face the fine even though it was not convenient but it was necessary. As the day was going on, just few minutes to midday, some irregularities were discovered in the company account, which led to some loss of finances. They had to do some forensic reviews and found out that the scamy act was performed before 7:46am. Which means, everyone who came from 7:45am down were called for questioning.

The humorous part of it was that, they had to go through the time-book to know the people that came before 7:46am. So even those who came later but signed earlier were still part of the people implicated. They could not say that they actually lied in the time-book, so they had to accept what they did not do. They were later asked to pay for the irregularities. The amount each of them got was more than they would have paid for fine of coming late for months. That was how I escaped the punishment because I maintained the truth. Any day and anywhere, it is always good to say the truth and stand by it.

If people remark you for always saying the truth, they will trust you more and they will not have any problem giving you tasks that required trust. In your place of work for example, being truthful at all times means that they will entrust you with more things. There are somethings that one can achieve, not because of their qualifications nor their educational background but simply because of their acts of truthfulness. There are times that it may be difficult to say the truth because of the fear of punishment, but it is still better than tilting towards the path of lies, because when they find out, you would not only lose trust and respect, but you may attract a bigger punishment for yourself.

A friend once said that "the way of truth may seem long, but the end is always glorious." Anyone that wants to make you to tilt from truth towards lies is trying to distract you from your glorious end, so you should not consent. Truth is not what you say just once and then change, it should be your lifestyle, your personality, and what you are known for. Always have in mind that the price of truth, even if it delays, would definitely come. In the same way, the consequences of lying will also surely come. Do not live for just the now, remember that what you do today will have a great impact and effects on your tomorrow. When you think this, you will not allow the temporary gratification of the present to deny you of the great things ahead.
