A Year Older And Better. Happy Birthday To Me
On this day many years ago, a child was born and now, he has grown into adulthood with grace and glory. When I look back to where I started from and where I am now, even though there are still lots of things to be achieved, but I am still grateful. A lot of people that started the same race of life with me had dropped along the way and some are nowhere to be found at the moment. In fact, some have lost many things and their lives too, but here I am, with life and many of the good things of life. This is part of the reasons I am grateful for seeing another birthday.
When I take a look at my life over the years, I cannot but be thankful and grateful, firstly for life itself, then for the benefits of living. Even though I may not have arrived at my final destination, but for the progresses so far, which have propelled me from where I used to be to the point I am now, it is something worthy of appreciation. Against all odds, which would taken my life out, but I overcame all to see yet another celebration of birthday. There was a statement made by my childhood friend some years back and I still have it in mind. He said "if the strike that was supposed to take your head off, only took away the cap on your head, then you need to be eternally grateful." What greater gift can it be to be alive to witness and celebrate a birthday?
As the years go by, I realise how priceless the gift of life is and I become more grateful for it. Life comes with more experiences, which make one wiser, better, and more valuable. Over the years, I have come to value the people I have around - family, friends, etc, who have been impactful in my life and have helped me in one way or the other. It is worthy to note that no one can go far in life without the input of others in their lives. This is why I remain thankful for the helps I have received over these years from places and from people, whose name are too plenty to fit into a single post. I may not have been the most qualified for every good thing that I have received but favour located me and I got even what I never asked for.
One of the things I have learnt in life, which is part of the things I reflect on each time is to put smiles on the faces of people. As much as is within my power, and for each passing day, I try to make people happy and put smiles on their faces through my actions of kindness to them. These things have helped me to value people the more and of course, I have also gained more friends, acquaintances, and people around me. Imagine how blessed someone can be to have good people around. Life has taught me to value people and relationships, and this has helped me in life.
As I mark this year's birthday, I want to, from the innermost part of my heart, extended a sincere appreciation to every single person that has helped my life in anyway and has made my life better - from family, to friends, to acquaintances, to allies, to my buddies, etc. It will be right to say that "I am, because you are." Of a truth, the light that I have seen, and the ones you have brought to my life will continue to glow and shine brighter. I am blessed to have the people in my life and I believe that this remarkable day will herald a new beginning of greater and better things.
