Slumpu and Me Shortlisted for Stomach Turner Prize!
Jompiy, AKA: Edgeworth Johnstone, outside Tate Britain doing test run for Stomach Turner Prize Ceremony, October 5, 2024
Slumpu and Ron Throop, the only non-British entrants for the Stomach Turner Prize happening December 3, 2024. We live in the U.S., but it makes no difference because the Stomach Turner does not discriminate by nationality, alter-ego, or blockchain art. Our work has been shortlisted, and Jompiy has already been selected as winner (prizes to be determined). We have been asked by the committee to write a few words for the Stomach Turner fanzine.

“Slumpu would like to thank the committee for shortlisting its painting Field Urt Landed for the 1st Annual Stomach Turner Prize. It also congratulates Jompiy for its well-deserved win. Slumpu believes limited ancestor worship is artifice and appreciates that the Stomach Turner Prize is not racist. Slumpu had a chance to win just like any art-making Brit, who really isn’t a Brit because you can’t stop/start evolution where writing and patriarchy begins, draw arbitrary lines in the field, and then claim a homeland because Kings said so. Slumpu is against King and state worship. Nations are a lie. People should pilgrimage to The Rift Valley to kneel and kiss the sacred ground from where humankind began. The Turner Prize is wasting its time pretending that people are British. All people are East African. The Turner Prize is not snooty because British artists do not exist. How could something that does not exist be snooty? Thank you Black Ivory Printmaking and Audio Club for sponsoring the Stomach Turner. May the best entry already win! Slumpu hopes to have another go next year.”
Ron Throop:
Actually, the Oneface is Blind 2024. Acrylic on loose canvas, 14 x 14"
“This is the 25th anniversary of Stuckism which has nothing to do with the Stomach Turner Prize, but is still worth mentioning because sometimes I am a Stuckist painter who believes any silver anniversary deserves public recognition. I want to thank Edgeworth Johnstone and Jompiy for winning first and declaring the obvious to a worldwide audience—that Jompiy is the ONLY artist to have risen to the top of the pack with his highly innovative and market-upending crypto art, supported by a blockchain and electricity. My piece, Actually, the Oneface is Blind, is just a painting, and not a wallop! to the world of finance, like Jompiy, whom I greet at the beginning of a remarkable career, which must have taken years of groundwork for such an impressive beginning. When I first encountered Jompiy, I had to pause for a moment to fully take it in, to make sure it wasn’t just a fleeting moment, a sunburst through a London fog. But the solid sense of the currency is a sober certainty, as spring is to winter, as a clear day after a violent storm. It carries the highest virtues, fortifying and encouraging the harmed and harried toward a future of greater democracy.
I would also like to congratulate the other shortlisted artists. Bow all around. We are in good company.
Many thanks to Tate Britain security for leaving the pig be.
Finally, thank you Turner Prize for getting all the rich people in a room just a lemon toss away from the Stomach Turner finalists.”
Good luck, and keep us posted.
