We’re extending our support for the Little Owls - Mission 18
Hello my dear Steemians,
This is the new account “Planetwild” by @stef1 and @myskye. This account is about collecting Steem for the PlanetWild project. That's why I'm going to post once a day. Everything we get together here (Steem, SBD, SP) goes to the project. Then let's see what we can do here...
Beyond its adorable appearance, the Little Owl is an indicator of healthy landscapes and ecosystems. However, industrialization and intensive agriculture have destroyed much of their habitat. As a result, these charming birds have gone extinct in many regions. Last year, we partnered with LFV-NNN to help restore their population. Despite the mission’s success, our partner and the owls now face new obstacles threatening their recovery.
One year ago we installed 25 nesting boxes in Nuthe-Nieplitz, a vast nature park in Germany. Now we returned and found that half of these boxes were occupied by Little Owl families — a huge success. And the ongoing care and monitoring is crucial for the owls’ recovery. Unfortunately, our partner’s funding expired last year, jeopardizing their ability to help the Little Owls reach a self-sustaining population over time. That’s why we traveled back to Nuthe-Nieplitz and brought much needed support to continue the important work.
Last year, we had installed 25 nesting boxes. This time around we tripled that number with an additional 50 boxes. And we brought crucial funding to cover a full year of work in the breeding aviaries, and all expenses for fieldwork across the vast 600 square kilometer area. Overall, we were able to increase our funding by six times compared to last year. All thanks to our growing community. And it could not have come at a more crucial time, giving the team the breathing room to secure long-term funding on their own.
