The smallest bear in the world - Mission 13

The world's smallest bear is the Bornean sun bear, also known as the "honey bear." They are native to Southeast Asia and are distinguished by their small size. They are about half the size of other bear species, with adults typically weighing between 60-150 pounds. Sun bears are known for their distinct yellow or orange marking on their chest, which resembles the rising sun. Despite their small stature, they are known for their speed, agility, and adaptable nature in their forest habitats.
We are implementing a new rewilding method and help an orphaned sun bear to find its way back into the wild.
Sun bear cubs are the smallest bear species in the world, native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. With possibly only 2,000 sun bears left in the wild, they’re facing existential threats from all sides. But what makes their conservation so difficult is that sun bear cubs need a mother to grow up and survive in the wild.
Meet Tenom, a little sun bear cub that was orphaned and snatched from the wild by poachers. Luckily, just before she was sold, she was rescued by our partner, the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. They set up camp in the Bornean rainforest to raise her and release her back to the wild.
To make sure Tenom can survive the wild, they’re creating a human foster family that will guide her just like a bear mother would. If successful, this method allows other bear orphans to make their way back into the wild and gives hope to the entire species.

I must admit that I had never heard of sun bears, although I have always held wildlife literature in high esteem. An interesting creature, it is surprising that its small dimensions did not make it a very popular pet along with dogs. It’s hard for me to imagine what interest it might have among poachers, the skin is small, there’s not much meat, there’s bile... I think there’s not much bile there either, if we talk about those things that put bears at risk. But apparently, human greed does its dirty work here too, and these bears have to seek protection.

Greed has no limits. It is the main problem of the human species, it is what is leading us to destruction. We all want to have more money and to own more things, without limits. The more we have, the more we want, and we are unable to give up lots of useless and totally dispensable things sold to us by the system.
