My daughter Tamsin Living In Victory Everyday. LIVE!
25 December 1987, on Christmas day, my baby girl was born.
What made this such a memorable day was not only that she was born on Christmas day, the biggest Christmas gift I could have asked for, but she was born Living In Victory Everyday. LIVE!
Meet my daughter Tamsin.
Tamsin was born 5 weeks earlier. Not only was she born earlier but I had a very difficult pregnancy and was in hospital for two weeks prior to her birth. The odds were all against her for living. I sat for hours next to the incubator just watching and praying. I trusted nobody with her.
With each day passing she got stronger and eventually we could take her home. Although it was a glorious day for all of us I was so scared and I wish I could put her back where she came from, living safely in my tummy.
She was so tiny that she slept in a shoe box and she wore doll clothes. I was too scared to bath her and my sister had to come and do it for me.
Slowly but surely she grow into being a normal baby. As tiny as she was she had a voice ten times her size.
Ten months and she was not sitting. Twelve months and still no signs of sitting and not near crawling. We were told that they will have to start forcing her with weights so that she could learn to sit. Two days before the first treatment she sat for the first time all by herself. Fourteen months and she went squint and had her first operation.
While she was recovering from the operation I noticed her fingers was pulling funny,“trigger fingers”, we were told. Back to theater so that they could fix her ligaments.
Two months after that and again back to theater. This time for her toes which were climbing over each other with the result that they had to sew them together.
And that is how her Living In Victory Everyday started. LIVE!
At the age of 9 she started school in the normal school stream much older than her school friends. According to her school rapport she was doing well but as a mom I knew that something was not right.
Because of her lack of crawling she never developed spatial orientation which created big problems for her in primary school. She could write the word “Coke” literally in ten different ways. We could sit with the 2 x table learning it today but tomorrow it will all be gone.
And so we learned a new word “dyslexia”. How I hate this word! There is such a stigma to it which is so wrong!
They wanted to place her in a special school for children who suffered from learning disabilities but I refused.
At the age of fifteen I could not handle her school work anymore. We sat for hours after school every day. I tore pages and pages out of her school books. I even at one stage sat with a knife threatening to cut her fingers off if she use them for counting.
Then one afternoon after we both erupted in tears I just draw the line. I marched her into the principal’s office the next morning and told him that I withdraw. From that day forth Tamsin is in her own. No more homework for me, no more tasks for me and I don’t even want to see her test results.
That was the day that her life turned around.
She had to live by herself for herself and she did!
She passed high school with a distinction and today she is a loving wife and mommy of two beautiful children. I always said I wish I can just take some of her guts and give it to her brother.
She is Living In Victory Everyday by;
- Always being positive
- Always laughing
- Always seeing the good in other people
- Always supporting the underprivileged
- Always lending a helping hand
- Never saying a bad word about someone else
- Never giving up!
How I wish I could live life like her!
This is my second #burnsteem25 post.
Oh my goodness! Sister @patjewell, you are in deed a wonderful mother to your daughter. You have nurtured her with such love despite her limitations. Your love and care and your firm decision made her who she is today. I must applaud you👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏. This has made me remember how my mother cared and nurtured me in her warm embrace. The love was too much that they reasoned that she was going to make me not to be useful with her love. One day, at 5 years of age, she allowed me to be taken away and I stayed with my aunt. Her love knew no bounds for me then. Am crying right now.
Taking you so much for helping her live in victory. My kind regards to her and her family. Kudos to you and your support for steemgrowth through burnsteem.
Awh! My turn to shed a tear! Live your life one day at a time… that’s all we need to remember and so often we just need others to point it out to us.
That’s what we want for our children, to live their life’s to their fullest and to go down on their knees at the end of the day and say thank you! 🙏
Greetings from England @patjewell You and your daughter have been through a lot but all that matters is that she is happy and has a wonderful life. I had a colleague who was dyslexic. She talked a lot but still once a week I spent my lunch break with her. I felt a bit exhausted after that as she was jumping from one topic to another and got really frustrated when one has a different opinion on something. She left England and she is living happily in sunny Malta now. I haven't made a #burnsteem25 post yet by the way. I came to know about this new initiative today.
Hello friend all the way from England! 😊
Gosh, you’ve put a smile on my face when you mentioned your friend with dyslexia. I could see my daughter so clearly. Frustrated was her first name and I always felt so sorry for her.
Indeed, she now lives a happy life. She knows how to live with her shortcomings.
I’m looking forward to your #burnsteem25 post.
Kindly copy me in your post as I would like to give you some acknowledgment.
Greetings from South Africa 🌼
Hello friend, I am glad that your daughter overcame all obstacles, and today she is a great mother. She had a loving mother who took great care of her. I identify with you in that you had a difficult pregnancy and it was difficult for you to bathe your daughter because she was tiny. I had a difficult pregnancy and my daughter was eight months old. She was so tiny that I was afraid to bathe her, she didn't weigh even two kilos. She also spent a lot of time in the incubator and today my daughter @carlaisl is a very bright, intelligent and creative girl. She also had no hope of life. God is great and today, you enjoy your daughter as I do, I enjoy my daughter.🙏🌻💕
Awh! It is so wonderful to read your reply! You feel like a close friend of mine.
How wonderful that we could share similar stories.
It’s when you go through tough times with your children that your prayers never stop just for them to breathe… to live day by day. In a way it makes motherhood extra special.
I had a peep at your daughters profile. She is a beautiful young lady. You did well mom and can be very proud of her living in victory everyday.
Best wishes for the two of you! 🌺
Yes, you also feel like a close friend.
It really is wonderful to be able to share very similar stories.
It is true, when going through difficult situations, we pray that they will be full of health. I think we will always pray for them, no matter how mature they are. Our children are our most valuable treasures. You also did well as a mother and I congratulate you for that. Thank you so much for your words.
God bless you too, beautiful and brave women.🌻🙏🌺💚
Thank you for your beautiful words! 🌼
It’s true, you never stop praying for your children. And if they are not enough they bless you with grandchildren and your prayers increase tenfold!
What a wonderful world we live in 🙏

I was already in love with your posts but this post made me cry
Awh! Sorry for making you cry🌼
When I saw the “live” contest I just had to participate as I too well know what the true meaning of the word is.
Thank you for your support!
My word. What a post. I'm literally crying reading this post. This reminded me of a movie Taare zameen par. This movie talked about a kid having dyslexia. I'd recommend you to please watch it.
Your daughter is so so strong. I hope she has many more cheerful years to live for. More power to all of you. ❤️❤️
Awh! I’m sorry for the tears! Guess what? I’m shedding a tear with you. I will for sure see if I can get hold of the movie you’ve mentioned.
As for my daughter, she is a winner! She now does babynatics with toddlers and the handicapped babies just love her. She is playing it forward 😊
You are a great example of what a true mother can do for her children...a very heartfelt and inspiring story.
Your daughter is a miracle of life and a miracle that you have cultivated.
A publication that as a mother moves me.
Awh thank you for these beautiful words! 🎕
As a mother we can only love and treasure our children, day in and day out.
They are so special and each one unique!
