Are There FRESHWATER DRUM in Lake Bull Shoals?
Check out the photo, what's your guess?
Lake Bull Shoals is probably our top fishing spot. We enjoy a lot of species of fish from the lake, ranging from smaller panfish to larger fish like bass, carp, and gar. Freshwater Drum is one of the species that can get larger, and they fun one to catch. In this video, I pull in a nice one, and answer the question, "Are there freshwater drum in Lake Bull Shoals?" Spoiler alert, "Yes."
I believe that our interaction with the local Freshwater Drum started off with our bowfishing efforts. We’ve also enjoyed spearfishing them and reeling them in on the rod too. Mama-Pepper calls them “fish basket fish” because she really enjoys it when I fillet them and deep fry them. Too many people think that species like the Freshwater Drum are “trash fish,” but thankfully we know better.
It’s such a blessing to live near the lake, and a huge blessing to have a ready supply of worms and nightcrawlers (much larger, longer worms) available on our homestead. One excellent benefit of fishing with worms is that you never know what’ll bite, as a large variety of fish feed on bait like that, so it can be an impressive variety show fishing with them as bait. Enjoy the show!
