How Do You Work With Multiple Accounts?

I am publishing this post to ask you for advice.

I've been working on Steemit for a year with one single account. My wife did not share my enthusiasm and was indifferent to this platform. However, over time, a Ukrainian community was created in Steemit. Ukrainian authors began to publish many articles in Ukrainian, which my wife easily read without the need for translation.

One day we had a conversation about Steemit and I showed her that there are two communities dedicated to her passion, cooking. This was a turning point. My wife registered on Steemit by creating an account @mariam.dariam. She mostly posts about cooking, and I think they're good posts. Therefore, I am proud to have brought such a user to the platform.

But we work on the same laptop. And yesterday happened something that had to happen sooner or later. While I was minding my own business, my wife prepared her next post and accidentally published it using my account. Then there was a moment of panic. Then she told me about it, I deleted the content of the post and wrote the word "Error". I even got a downvote for this. We then published her post using her account.

Nothing serious happened, but the post could have accidentally been published using SC07 or SC08 accounts, which I also have access to. How to prevent this in the future?

The first thing I did was delete the saved passwords for the SC07 and SC08 accounts. If I ever need them, I will get them again.

The second thing I did was I installed a different browser. I will use one browser, my wife will use the other. I even considered getting another laptop, but it wouldn't be wise to do so now during the war.

It would seem that everything should be fine, but for reasons unknown to me, all browsers, except for Google Chrome, work extremely slowly on this old laptop. I had to give up using different browsers.

Then I decided to restore my old personal computer. It turned out that the motherboard needed to be replaced. Such motherboards are no longer produced, so you need to buy a used one. A used motherboard will most likely have capacitor problems again soon. So an upgrade is needed. If you upgrade, you need to buy a motherboard, processor and RAM. The budget for this upgrade is not very large, but still, I am now forced to be careful about unnecessary expenses. I will upgrade but a little later.

I was also wrong once, because of having access to different accounts. In February, I was in the curation team. One day I was curating using the SC07 account. After completing the work, I closed the browser and went to do housework.

Two hours later I came back to read some posts. I liked @ronthroop's post and upvoted it with 100% power. As it turns out, I used the SC07 account. It would be better for me to leave it as it is, because the post was worth supporting. But the subject I had to curate was lifestyle. In addition, additional voting shifted the team's voting schedule by 2 hours. That's why I canceled the vote. It turns out that canceling the vote doesn't bring the voting power back.

That's why I want to ask you, how do you solve the issue of having access to multiple accounts? How do you not confuse them? Simply being attentive is not an option for me and I am even considering it :)

Sort:

First of all I think this is inevitable.

Working with multiple accounts always has this problem and no matter how careful you are there will be a mix-up one day. The best thing to do is to have different browsers as you suggested but even with this, you might end up making a mistake once in a while.

In your case I think you should always try working with the Incognito mood for accounts that you hardly use and using the main google account for the ones that you use on a regular

Now here comes my problem.

You have shown to us that it us normal for all of us to make mistakes once in a while and the problem I have with some mods and admins of some communities is that they never understand when others make these mistakes. They only tend to mute them without listening to reasonable explanations. Each time I see this I feel saddened because it can happen to anyone and then they end up destroying the good reputation the person strived to build.

Yes, I have already met this. I've seen people accused of using different accounts, even though there wasn't enough evidence that they were doing it for the purpose of fraud. In such a case, it is impossible to prove yourself right. The only way out is to leave such a community and write in another.

I actually use two browsers, when I was on the curation team, even three.
When one is slow or down, I log in and out in a very focused way. In the process, I made a "mistake" only once.
Then there's my mobile. Here I am ONLY logged in privately, to be able to vote quickly or comment briefly in between times. For posts, the mobile is of course not suitable... ;-)

Nice to know that @mariam.dariam is your wife. I followed her at first, but then I unfollowed her again, because the account actually seemed a bit suspicious to me: She didn't comment anywhere, she didn't vote for others, "stubbornly" every day one good post after another (which "real" beginners really don't manage to do...). Well, I should take a look at her blog again... ;-)

Thank you for sharing your experience. By the way, I also use only my own account on my phone. It is convenient to read and vote from the phone. But write only on a computer.

My wife really didn't comment at first. She believed that the main goal was to write the best post possible. But over time, I see that she began to respond to comments, although, in my opinion, she is not as fascinated by this as cooking and describing this process.

I had similar thoughts when I first started enjoying the community curator function these days. It didn't seem possible to switch back and forth between the accounts without a glitch. Two browsers - good approach. However, I have already used both with my private account, for technical reasons. So it didn't seem helpful to me. Two computers - and that should remain the method of choice. If you want to comment on certain contributions privately and as a curator, that either takes a lot of time (LogIn/LogOut/LogIn/...), or you do it in parallel on different devices.

Since this is difficult to arrange spontaneously, would a dual operating system be a solution? I'm a big Linux fan, so you can run Windows on the side. Two monitors on which you open the respective distributions...? That should minimise confusion...

Schien mir also nicht hilfreich.

This is a non-standard solution that I did not even think about. I've used Linux before, so maybe it's time to do it again. I will check if this laptop has enough performance to run two operating systems. Thanks for the advice.

Shouldn't be a problem, use steemkeychain
and you easily switch between the accounts

I use it all the time between my account xpilar, wordofxpilar and woxhelpfund

use steemkeychain

Thanks, I've heard of steemkeychain before but never tried it and ended up completely forgetting about it. Thanks again, I'll give it a try.

Just take it easy :)

Chrome.

Steemit?

Thanks @chant. Curation is not an easy task. I wish you success in this :)

Ahh this was my biggest fear when I was using the SC05 account. Fortunately, this adventure was uneventful. I used a different browser to avoid this mistake, but I was extra worried, especially during my curation days, when I had to vote.

As I see it, different browsers are the most popular solution. I will additionally try steemkeychain, maybe it will help me.

I open other accounts in the incognito mode but it has its drawbacks like a post doesn't auto-save in drafts if the page accidently closes.

The simple solution is to use steemkeychain but I had been too lazy to switch to it. I shall start using it now.

Today xpilar reminded me about steemkeychain. I will try to use it.
