I'm a little surprised.
It was always said that the official code is on github (steem and condenser). But no short-term changes were visible there. Maybe I just haven't seen it!? Are there other sources? Is the code not so open source after all?
I think it must be some kind of “fall-back” code which is used for development servers or test sites that somehow managed to get live. That would make sense to me. I believe it was a server update that caused the booming issue but I’d be lying if I say that I understand how this could happen!
My guess is that there are parts of the code that are not on GitHub. For example, some accounts are blocked from the front-end - I suspect that this list isn’t there…?
Now that you mention it, I remember seeing such lists once. But whether it was a "blacklist", I don't really remember...
