Karoll, An Unusual Glow

Good morning my dear community, today I want to introduce you to Karoll, a young girl who is immersed in a mysterious forest; when suddenly in front of her a strange butterfly with a very peculiar aura or energy around her suddenly covers all the air of the forest. This is a drawing where I went a little more towards the theme of surrealism, I used many bright tones and quite saturation in many areas of Karoll's character; so without further ado I leave you with the drawing process and I hope you like it a lot 😃:

PROCESS

The main idea for my drawing was that the center of attention was Karoll's character, that's why I decided to create a kind of portrait style drawing, with a Karoll with a very youthful or adolescent appearance perhaps; I tried to make the sketch of her while she contemplates something that is flying next to her, while she admires it with great intensity. The colors for the character were quite simple, I used a color palette from a drawing from a week ago because I wanted Karoll to have a warm essence; for the hair I decided on a scarlet red tone because I thought it would look better in the short hair style.

The painting of the skin is very important, in fact, it is perhaps the most important part in any work since it gives the basic essence of any character, and that is why I always take my time to make it as good as possible; with defined strokes, but at the same time soft, I shape the layers of volume which I then blur and mix little by little with more dedicated brushes. The painting of the face (eyes and mouth) is another section where I always pay special attention, since the eyes are the ones that transmit the essence and personality of the character; in this case I decided to paint the eyes in a chocolate brown that I liked too much, I was shaping the eyeball and then the inner iris.

In the next step of the painting process I was working the hair with a lot of patience, since being a short hair the strokes must be much more controlled and precise; it was shaping certain relief and shadows in the inner part where you do not reach the lighting or light. Then with the help of a 3-tip brush I was painting the strands of hair, in this case I decided to make a kind of curves or arches to give a rounded appearance to the hair; I was also giving certain high brightness for the natural lighting of the environment.

Finally I came to the other important part of this illustration and it was the painting of the butterfly, as I told you the idea was that Karoll stood out in this work, but also that the butterfly was equally protagonist; that's why I decided to use very intense tones like jade blue to make a little contrast with Karoll and be noticed a little more. The painting of the forest was very simple, I only created a big tree trunk behind Karoll and I gave texture to the wood as if it was a very old tree; and to finish I only had to make the energy or the aura that covers the butterfly, for this I created a layer in Pin Light mode and thanks to this I got this cool and colorful effect which I also used to create the mist that floats through the forest.
