Photo-walk in Drvengrad - Imprinted by LightCaptured
Drvengrad
Mokra Gora, Serbia.
For those of us, who mainly live on the Balkans, the name speaks clear enough for itself.
"Wooden Town", or "Wooden City".
Actually, in my country official language, there aren't different words for "city" and "town". We just say, "small city", or "big city" or sometimes we joke that a specific city is of "village type" when it is very small. Anyways.
Drvengrad has been built for artistic purposes, and I loved that side of it.
It is indeed very artistic. At the same time, it is very eco-friendly.
At a certain time Serbian national railways started replacing the wooden sleepers from their railroads with concrete sleepers.
So guess what - patios, staircases, fences - some of them all built by old used railway sleepers.
For those of you who are around my age - you know - those sleepers have a certain smell of the chemicals that had been used to impregnate them and protect them against the destructive powers of the elements...
I love that smell.
I loved the whole town, apart from the fact that it was a bit expensive to stay, as after it served its artistic purpose, it was rebranded as a hotel complex...
The whole experience, though, was like stepping into a fairy-tale.
Or a fable, I should better use this word, as fairy-tales sometimes has dark endings, while the only dark ending after spending a night here would be a heavy hangover, from the excellent Duna (that's Serbian quince high-alcoholic brandy).
Not to miss! :)))
This is my first attempt at using Project Atlas, https://steematlas.com/ by @pennsif.witness
I accessed it on my desktop, with Brave browser.
Here are a couple of suggestions:
a search would be nice, it wasn't easy to locate this place on the map, as it isn't in my country, so I actually had to search it on google maps, then visually compare the maps with similar scale.
once I located the exact place, I clicked on the "add pin" icon in the bottom, left-hand side of the window and boom... back zoomed out to the whole world map, so I had to repeat zooming in and searching visually, again, the location. Probably it would be better to not change zoom or location when this button is clicked?
I love that vintage feel of the world map, lovely design work, kudos!
It reminds me of an old strategy game I used to play a couple of decades ago :))
