Hiking to The Stone Wedding

in WORLD OF XPILAR6 days ago

My fellow travelers, today I want to share some of my photographs, experience and thoughts about this beautiful and impressive rock formation natural phenomenon called "Stone Wedding".

It could be found next to Zimzelen village, Kardzhali municipality in Southern Bulgaria.

It is about a two-hours drive from the nearest airport in Plovdiv, the road to there is scenery and more beautiful nature could be seen along.

There are many reasons to like this place but I have one of my own that makes sharing this place important, well, at least to me.

The rocks making that formation, are soft.

Considering there are four full seasons in Bulgaria, from burning hot summers with temperatures greater than 40 degree Celsius and winters with temperatures below -20 C, sooner, or later, probably in a few decades or so, all these formations will erode.

I've been at that Wedding several times, and I see the changes.

The official wiki page doesn't say a lot, and it doesn't have an English version, so let me translate that.

The Petrified Wedding (also known as the Stone Wedding) is located near the village of Zimzelen. This group contains figures up to 10 meters high, resembling people, animals and others. This group is located on an area of nearly 50 acres. The legend that tells about the customs in ancient times is interesting - When the wedding began, everyone who caught a glimpse of the bride's face was petrified. So at one wedding, a wind blew, blew away the veil hiding the bride's face, and all the wedding guests were petrified instantly. It is also interesting that the figures themselves are not one-color. This is due to the presence of different metal oxides.

The Pin I've put on the https://steematlas.com/ is where you should park your car.
Sorry, unless biking from Kurdzhali, I don't think there is other easy way to travel there.

I would recommend the surrounding area as a picnic place in the springs and autumns, of course, have proper backpacks and hiking boots.

The path there walks through forest and small stream, so it is a bit slippery.

Or just go there in the afternoon and wait for the sunset.

I bet you will remember this day and this place.

Every place changes with time and this is inevitable, be it a building, a road, a street, anything that would be of interest to a visitor. Sometimes I like, if I have the opportunity, to make these comparisons through my own photos - one taken at this place now/one taken after 5 years, for example. The differences are often jarring. But this here is something different. It is a work in progress, a masterpiece that is at every moment complete, but at the same time undergoing changes. The differences in condition here are even more dramatic, I guess, given the way you describe it. It's like visiting a place over and over again, and always seeing it differently because it's indeed different. It is an ever-changing masterpiece in the way that only nature can do it, because it is, as I have said before, the greatest artist. And what is greater than that!

I couldn't say it better.
This whole place is indeed a work-in-progress, by the Greatest Artist :)

Have a great week!

Just like marriage, and life in a broader context: everything changes, nothing lasts but change. Enjoyed the images and the text. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you :)

So true, everything changes!

As a friend of mine likes to joke, "every divorce starts with a marriage" :)))
