Cambridge, England, UK - Walking those amazing streets - Imprinted by LightCaptured
In this virtual journey today, let me bring you along the streets of the amazing Cambridge city in England, UK.
It is out of question, everyone has heard about this famous university city in UK. So of course, as probably everyone else, I had some expectations of it, as it always happens with places that are well known...
First things first, though. Let me start how I got there. So earlier this year we were visiting close friends of mine who live in England. A funny fact is that I have visited England tens of times in the past, and as some of you may know already, a lived there for some time, in London, in particular. So it would be quite right for me to say that England has a special small part of my heart reserved exclusively for it. So this friendly visit was actually my first visit ever outside London! And probably that is quite symbolic, but the first place that our friends decided to take us to, was Cambridge.
I am thinking now, why is this so symbolic to me? Most probably because I know that my whole life is an university. I have to study, learn, educate myself each and every day, knowledge is like a water flowing. The moment one stops enhancing their knowledge, the river turns into a swamp. So a day, where I haven't learned anything new, is, at least for me, a dull day.
We went to Cambridge with a car. Trust me, finding a non-expensive place to park, for a whole day there, isn't easy, at all. So my friend had to reserve online a parking slot in advance. For UK, there is a nice website, similar to AirBnB for doing exactly that. It save troubles and money. Very convenient. It is a great business idea, whoever came out with this, kudos! So imagine, you go to work, from nine to six, your driveway is empty. So you just rent it out for that time. Some side-hustle extra money, the site gets a cut, His Majesty gets a cut, everyone's happy!
Why am I mentioning all this? Because our slot was more than a mile away from the center of the city. This was an awesome opportunity to stretch our legs and moreover, see, feel and comprehend more of the streets of Cambridge. I realize now, it wouldn't be such a full experience if we just parked somewhere near the "idea" center and skip all the "ordinary" streets.
And as you will see below from my photos, there isn't anything ordinary about Cambridge!
One of its sides that impressed me a lot are the thousands of bike riders.
I was pretty sure there are much more people on pedals than on car seats ;)
Plenty of art pieces, scattered beautifully around.
British architecture, is of course, quite distinguishable!
I walk, I see a beautiful building and I start asking myself, is this a church, or is this a campus building, is this a library or a residential building? Sometimes this would appear to be a boardinghouse.
How a city that is so old, established centuries ago, feels so young in spirit?
That's because students are young by spirit.
Exactly as someone who I was talking to lately, said to me "Don't forget that age is just a number!"
So true...
It felt not only very young, but also very international.
I could hear around many different languages, European, Asian and even some that I couldn't recognize.
Even the light here was different.
It seems easy to be artistic and artisanal here, right? Surrounded by all that art, history and traditions...
Cultural life, also very, very rich, I could say this by seeing many things around and here is an evidence:
We kept walking and walking towards the central part.
Since my first visit to England, I had known that English people have some kind of obsession about the beauty of their gardens and yards.
And as you will see, that obsession about beauty is also embedded into their academic buildings as well.
I must say, that I really loved walking those streets with my friends and my camera!
Now... it is coffee time! :)
