"Dos de Tres caídas", Bitácora de viaje | [Esp/Eng]

After almost two years of restrictions, as in the rest of the world, life in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, is resuming its course. Along with the movement of business, tourism and meeting places, the Theater, one of the activities most affected by the restrictions, is also beginning to open its doors again and to offer its characteristic cultural variety.

In these weeks it has been my turn not only to retake a staging that was paused at the time of the pandemic, but also to be in the process of touring several cities with the play entitled Dos de tres caídas. Previously I had talked about this project from its conception to its premiere, so here I leave links to those posts that will give a better account of the process between the text and the stage:

Otherwise we can say that it is a work that mixes the fantasy and emotion of Lucha Libre with the way the stories are interwoven in the theater, a metaphor between the constant struggle of life and also above the ring. So far our season has included performances in Merida, at the Casa Tanicho theater, where one of the performances had to be postponed due to an unexpected rain that visited us moments after the show began. We have already traveled to the cities of Chetumal, in the state of Quintana Roo and also to Villahermosa, in the state of Tabasco.

Later, we will give a performance in another theater in the city of Mérida, La Rendija, to finish our trip in the city of Campeche, with which we will close the year for this project. But in this revival we celebrate not only with the return to the stage and the trips to different points in the Southeast of Mexico, in this context we also had the qualification of the producer and manager of this project, who in addition to obtaining his professional degree in acting, is also a professional wrestler.

For me it has been a great joy to return to rehearsals and performances with this group of friends and great artists of the stage and the ring. Since we resumed the readings and the preparation of a replacement actor (Nicolás Macín took the role of the Justiciero de la Mancha), I have also felt a renewal of my vision of this profession that has been so hard hit in these times of isolation. Sharing the space, the movement, the word with all its languages and expression in the gesture. The meeting with artists from different cities has also been a great gift of hospitality and love for the theater. These are times to recover the strength and imagination of this art of encounter.

It has been worth the wait, hopefully we will continue on this path, taking up life again.
