WOX TRAVEL CONTEST| WEEK 13 | Secret Sisteron
Today, we're heading to a less popular spot in France. A small town that, aside from its history, exudes charm and feels like home. You'll see it through my eyes, just as I experienced it. While popular destinations are undoubtedly beautiful, it can be challenging to focus, especially when they're crowded with tourists. In contrast, in less-known towns, the atmosphere is different and inspiring. Whenever the place I visit allows, I seek to delve into details.
Baume Rock, rising above the houses along the Durance River. This is the main attraction of the town.
Sisteron. A town associated with Napoleon. In 1815, when he wanted to return to power, instead of choosing the shorter route, he decided to take a more challenging and circuitous path from Grasse, through the Alps towards Grenoble. Whether by chance or not, his return journey turned out to be one of the most beautiful routes in France. It is now known as La Route Napoléon. Sisteron is just one of the points along Napoleon's route. History tells us that he entered the town with about 1,200 soldiers the people welcomed him, and a lavish reception was organized in his honor. Nevertheless, the Battle of Waterloo put an end to his aspirations to return to Paris and his rule, known as the Hundred Days.
The town is enveloped by abundant greenery, which not only provides stunning natural beauty but also ensures a supply of pure and fresh air! 🏞️
The old town is characterized by its impressively narrow streets, numerous staircases, elegant boutiques, artisan shops, cafes, and restaurants scattered throughout.
And here, as in other cities in France that I've visited, there's a vibe similar to Italy. 🤩
One of the things that consistently amazes me is how people enhance the beauty of their town through small gestures. In Sisteron, the residents excel at this, and they truly value the details! 💕
Like an art gallery, but curated by the locals in a natural way. ⭐
In the old town, the atmosphere feels both like a small town and a village simultaneously. It's incredibly cozy and delightful. 🥰
Vaulted passages are literally everywhere, and for me, the feeling was superb because I love curved forms, and it also makes the photos even more beautiful.
It's a good idea to wear comfortable shoes because, as I mentioned, there are many staircases, and the walk involves going up and down. I often stopped to see this or that, so I didn't feel tired. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes to make your stroll pleasant and comfortable. 👟
A beautiful, artistic town surrounded by stunning nature is how I saw Sisteron. And when you visit, take your time, indulge in slow tourism; here, the crowd won't overwhelm you, as it can happen in places like Istanbul or Rome, for example. Enjoy ☺️

Sisteron seems like a hidden gem, a picturesque blend of history and serene charm. The way you describe it, I can almost feel the tranquility and elegance through your words! The combination of historical significance with its breathtaking natural beauty creates a unique allure.
