Market in Chinatown is full of interesting and strange items for cooking old style Chinese food.
I used to accompany my grandma and mother to the old market in Chinatown as a kid. It’s so crowded with people that I was afraid of getting lost. Adults had longer legs and they walked very fast. I had to run to keep up with them.
Things I saw as a kid still surprised me as a grownup, I went back to retrace the steps of my childhood there several times. I went there to bring back my memories of the good old days. My grandma was gone a long time ago and my mother was getting very old. They had no idea what kinds of memories they had planted into my brain as kid.
But I was walking alone without members of my family. Life has changed so much over the years. I needed the good vibes of the past to cheer myself up. So I went for walks in places of nostalgic memories.
The diversion and attractions were great as I was still bewildered by those items, ingredients , dried or pickled vegetables on sale in the market. Most old generations of Chinese people would go shopping here whenever they wanted to prepare a feast for their families.
I really enjoyed looking at the displays of food, dried fruits, tea leaves and many other goodies I couldn’t remember their names . Some were imported items so they could be very expensive. It’s nice that vendors allowed me to take photos of their shops.
I used to bring some foreign friends here several years ago. We stopped at a restaurant for some Chinese food and dim sum. I had to rush through the market as I wanted to check out on old Chinese shrine before closing time. So I had no time to stop for some Chinese tea and snacks. I hope you could visit Chinatown one day.
Have a nice day!
Take care.
