RE: Last Will and Testament

Oh man!!! I enjoyed this so much lol @ronthroop - and not that I was reveling in your demise, but rather the acute level of dry humour you very successfully managed to intertwine into an otherwise rather morbid topic.

Art is not dead, however artists need to figuratively die a few times in order to thicken the skin into old age.

Oh yes, yes, yes!

So much of this made me think back to my moms passing - also an artist to her core. Lived from hand to mouth her entire life and held very little value to things of a material nature :) Her "will" - scribbled in her doctor like handwriting on lined pages torn from a school exercise book... which consisted mostly of her emotional expressions with an end note of "getting to the stuff at hand".

Also, no funeral requested. We had a big fat family party instead, with no shortage of red wine. We made a full wall gallery of all her art which we pulled from every store it had previously been displayed in and then also divided it up after, each person choosing one or two pieces which they wanted for themselves. The walls in my house are now beautified with only my mothers art... thankfully she was a very talented artist, haha!

"plant my ashes with some rosemary" she said - which I always giggled at and completely chose to ignore because being the avid green fingers that she was, I was shocked that she would request her ashes to be planted with a bush which is renowned for just turning up it's toes when it has a bad day, lol - sorry mom, you lost that one... an olive, perhaps - but definitely not rosemary... that would be the last thing anyone wanted... was for the plant you pot with your mothers ashes to go belly up haha! Though I do know why she made the request... "rosemary for remembrance" and all that :)

Please keep Rose away from bad men.

Love it! <3 haha!

Ps. Sorry to hear about your painting on Ebay, but PLEASE NEVER let the apparent interest or lack thereof from the online world toward your art define your worth as an artist or the level of appeal your work has to the rest of the world.

Hope you have a great week! x

What a thoughtful, expressive reply!
Thank you for sharing your families’ experience celebrating your Mom. I truly hope there is a party and good cheer when I take leave. I mention that I set aside money for “burial”, party expenses, and art trash removal. Fat chance in that! I’m broke. Rose will have to write those checks. Hopefully our girls can make the phone calls:)

Your encouragement is always welcome. And I learned why Rosemary won’t do as a capable remembrance! In my climate (and for me in particular) hops is an excellent choice for longevity perennial. 100 year old plants still climb poles in June.

We still have 29 years to worry about that:)

Thanks again!

You are most welcome @ronthroop :) it was a lovely post.

I have no doubt that there will be :)
