The World of XPILAR - B&W PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #093 - Entrance geometry
The staircase of the back door in one of the apartment buildings of St. Petersburg of the early 20th century. In those days and earlier, apartment buildings in Russia always had two entrances - front and back, but not for fire safety reasons. Apartment owners entered the building through the main front entrance, and their servants entered through the back, food was also delivered through the back door and garbage was taken out of the apartments. Of course, the back entrances were not decorated, unlike the front ones, and elevators were not made in them either. The doors of the apartments in the back passages, as a rule, led directly to the kitchen.
