The metamorphosis process of the lime butterfly - papilio demoleus

Hello everyone, long time no see , after few years I don't post anything and today I wanna share my experience about rising butterfly.

Well , few months ago I really hate caterpillar, in my eyes caterpillar is a ewww little creature, everytime I see them I'll ask someone to take them away from my sight, until one day I found a cocoon, in that time I thought that cocoon was a butterfly cocoon. But it's not, it's a moth cocoon

That day really changed my perspective on these ugly little creatures. Everyone loves butterfly but only few people can accept caterpillar it's because how they look , this thing remind me about human, Just like caterpillars, human also need proses to be successful. So , start from that day I start collecting caterpillar from my mom garden to save them before my mom kill them hehe , at the first I still don't wanna touch them , I took them with stick or something else as long I don't touch them. And of my collection is Papilio demoleus a.k.a lime butterfly.

And this is how they look after hatching, tiny and fragile, in this age they only eat Liam leaf shoots.

After few days they start eating Old leaves.

Now I can hold them with my bare hand hehe

First day of shedding, before they shedding they don't move or eat , they just stuck in one place till the skin changing, this age they will eat much more than before

This is all what I had , I kept collecting them from my mom lemon tree

They're getting bigger!

And this is the last from of caterpillar before they shedding into a chrysalis.

And now it's a chrysalis, what we gonna call that ? A methapod? 🤭🤭

After few days we can see the form of the wings, within 2 days we can see they adult butterfly.

And here we are , the beautiful butterfly papilio demoleus ❣️

Well that's all ❣️

But to rise butterfly isn't easy as well , to feed them is easy , but sometimes bad things also happens, as they're fragile creatures sometimes they can get infected by disease such as OE (Ophryocystis Elektroscirrha) , Black death, parasitoid,
Pseudomonas Bacteria and anal prolapse.

This is an example of a butterfly attacked by a virus, I don't know why because I don't see anything wrong start from the caterpillar till the chrysalis but then when it's hatched the Wings is crumpled and there's no way to help the butterfly, I tried to feed this butterfly with sugar and honey but unfortunately it's not survive, after a day the butterfly leave me forever :') I feel sad because this butterfly can't fly and see the beautiful world.

But again this remind me for us , as human sometimes we also fail during the process, but as human we still have a chance to stand again and try again , so don't give up !
