Romanesque House, the historical stop between my photos, so learn a bit

located in Marafor square in Poreč has been renovated and expanded several times during its history. Despite the numerous interventions over time, the house has retained the basic characteristics of Romanesque residential architecture. The layout of the house is simple and regular, without internal partitions. It was built of simple rough-hewn blocks.

It was restored in

1926

but kept its historical features.

Its present-day appearance dates from the post-World War II period, as it was part of a housing estate destroyed by bombing and has not yet been restored.

✅ The Romanesque-style house is now a family home.

Built in the

13th century,

the latter's major subdivision probably took place in the

18th century,

when the second floor was separated and a wooden balcony was added.

Although it is the result of later construction work and cannot be considered an original part of the Romanesque house, the wooden balcony contributes to its picturesque quality. The ground floor of the house, which is used from an economic point of view, is now the gallery. The external stone staircase leads to the first floor, while the internal wooden stairs lead to the second floor. The upper level is also open to the public.
