Sugar Rush and Toy Bust
Do sweets uplift your mood? Umm, not as such. Chocolates and caramel do. I do not eat sweets in abundance, but I get a bite-size craving after every meal and appreciate those guests who bring such yummy treats that satisfy my cravings. Before you ask, I don't usually buy sweets myself to satisfy my inner self that I'm not splurging on junk. Such hypocrisy.
I was organizing candy jars in the afternoon today, which I had to hide on the top shelves, out of the reach of kids because they weren't behaving. It was a houseful this past week as extended family was visiting. Kids in the house were skipping meals and indulging in the sugared frenzy. Only now that visitors have gone, I have brought down the sweets, also because my kids don't eat as much junk as when they have company. They are back to healthy proper meals now.
Speaking of chocolates and caramel, I made mocha caramel brownies for my guests one day. However, I prepared from scratch, cooked, and served 6 dishes that day in only 3 hours. The menu included Nachos, Dragon Chicken, Chicken Pulao, Minced Meat with Potatoes, Mutton Karahi, and the aforementioned dessert. My neighbors sent that brownie a few days ago and I loved it so much that I had to request a recipe.
I recreated this dessert and it was an absolute hit. I didn't take any pictures of the food prepared because it was chaotic in the kitchen which is another story and irrelevant to this sugary post.
Not long ago, dearest @soulfuldreamer also brought me some Turkish sweets - Lokum which are quite famous in the world. It was something marshmallow-y with different nuts and flavours. I loved it more than Baklava.
You remember, I participated in a dessert competition and made Banoffee Pie. The Dulche Le Che, I call it a cousin of caramel, is heaven in the mouth. I wouldn't miss this opportunity to share that beautiful and delicious pie again.
Uh-oh... Am I trapped in the sugar strings or looking behind the candy jars... for more candies? I couldn't find more edibles, but a broken out-of-place toy brought back the bittersweet and lively chaos of the week in front of my eyes.
I should stop obsessing over the confectionery, I can't because I have just added coconut balls and almond cookies on the shelf - thanks to the guests and observe the loss and breakage in the kids' room. They did autopsies on countless toys. I saw a disassembled monster truck, an inside-out once sturdy toy clock which had been a good companion of my firstborn for 5 years, a murky paste of crayons, and playdough embossed on the freshly washed rug. It's a nightmare. I have done the basic cleanup, but I can't make myself sit and throw away the beautiful toys, which are now nothing more than a pile of useless crap.
Might update more on toy busting or autopsies as per son.
I'm also not a big sweet tooth and as I've commented once before, Turkish sweets are too sugary for me and if I had to choose between lokum and baklava, I'd definitely choose the lokum. But now this comes to my mind: what if Turkish sweets are so concentrated because they are just to be tasted, to be enjoyed, one small piece, not half a tray, lol, like some people I know would do with their dessert. This can be done in my opinion with other sweets, just not Turkish, because one can die of diabetes or a heart attack. But what if sweets, especially chocolates, give us, who are no longer children, an uplifting mood (yeah, for sure), while giving children just the energy to go crazy, break and dismantle, play endlessly. I think the impact simply depends on the age of the recipient.
Too much sugar makes me nauseous which is why I'm very selective about sweets or desserts. I'm that person who can love a dessert but would only taste a few spoonfulls and be done with it for the day and sometimes days. I have a complicated relationship with sugar. 🤣
Hmmm... I didn't think it that way.
I really don't have a sweet tooth but my mood is better just by looking at these delicacies. And I heard something about some candies in some jars? Expect me soon ;)))
I'm sorry about your loss though. Specially the rug being messed up by playdough. Hihi. But believe me, these days will be over in a blink of eye. They grow up so fast. mashAllah.
That means sweets do have a cheering power. I hope you enjoyed those almond shortbread biscuits. My bad that I mistakenly tempted you with cookies.
Nah, that rug is meant to be spoiled. That's why it's in kids' room. 😅
