Coming Together
I can't decide whether I want to be a minimalist or go for a baroque ambiance at home. Ornate aesthetics look magnificent but are becoming a thing of the past and apparently require more maintenance. They say lazy people always find shortcuts. I am not sure if it's my laziness or aesthetic inclination that makes me prefer minimalism.
No, this doesn't solve the case of my lifestyle choices. In my defense, the wiring of women's brains is complicated by default. Let's put it this way:
〰️ I don't want to clean all the time.
〰️ I want everything organized.
〰️ I can't part with my possessions.
〰️ I want my place to look and feel cozy.
〰️ I want less noise (clutter, as you say).
When so many thoughts buzz in your head, you end up doing little to nothing. Before I got this place, I used to mentally picture how I wanted my new place to look, especially when I was annoyed with the suffocation I felt at the old place.
Now when it's time for action, I seem to be walking the middle road. I can't get rid of the stuff I have accumulated over the years, the least I can do is to try and keep the look of the home cohesive.
While at it, those dreamy mental pictures have shattered like a fragile glass. Why wouldn't they, when Mr. Budget has hit directly at the heart? I should have seen that blow coming. I haven't bought anything new for the home except flooring; the rest is all fixing and setting up old stuff, and we have already spent 1.5 lac rupees, which is around 3000 steam. With this speed, I will be broke in a few months. Haha
I would have put a pause on spending for now, I'm a conscious buyer, but I have waited so long for this place; I can't delay it further and want to turn it into my sanctuary, be it temporary.
We need to buy more flooring for the hallway. Yeah, we made a wrong estimate.
Secondly, I want a comfy chair that will go with the window in my room. I like to have a small corner to myself where I can read and work in peace. The picture below has my dream chair which would cost me an arm and a leg. I will try to get it made myself from a cheaper place.
Speaking of rugs, I'm short of rugs too. One needs to fill in the big space. God, the list never ends. I haven't written down the less expensive things. Right now, I'm trying to prioritize and squeeze everything into the budget.
My place is slowly coming together but I will stand by my words - moving to a new place is not easy. At any step.
I love minimalism. I think it's true that having a lot of things also means spending a lot of time maintaining and caring for them, time that I think I can use to do other things... But beyond that, the greatest quality of minimalism for me is that it helps simplify a lot of tasks, even when making decisions it is easier if there are few things.
Overloaded environments tend to stress me out a little, I don't know why, I think I start to imagine how to organize everything hahaha, so the less things, the better for me.
I wish you to build that beautiful refuge that you long for for your home. Blessings dear friend.
I agree, minimalism, as the name suggests, minimizes tasks and unnecessary things in life. That's the top reason for my inclination towards this way of life or for anyone.
But if we talk specifically about "design" then I think minimal designs have no character, e.g, architecture.
You keep impressing me!
I love what you’ve done with this place. When we visited before when it was alloted, I didn’t mention it at the time, but I was honestly disappointed with how it looked. Maybe all houses are like that before they truly become homes. But you’ve completely transformed it, especially the drawing room. Where’s the picture of my favorite curtains? I have to say, the whole place has your touch all over it. I can’t tell if it’s minimalistic, baroque, or something in between. It’s completely Hirafied.
Uh-oh??? You didn't say. In fact, you told me all the positive things about it. 😅
Yes, where we live, all homes more or less look like that. There are a lot of things on my mind, that I want to do, I wish I had a magic wand.
Your favourite curtains are in the first picture.
Thank-you for appreciating. This style is a mix of everything and like you said, it's Hirafied. 😅
Well, I did look at all the positives, and none of them were a lie!
Isn’t that what we should be doing? nah??? Rather than focusing on and pointing out the negatives, we should emphasize the positives. I mean, why would I burden you with what I was feeling? I knew you'd work your magic!
Yeah, now I noticed... I was more engrossed in the lamp ;))
Who are you telling that to...? I wouldn't really make a choice between minimalist or opulent baroque - the main thing is: your style, your taste, your comfort zone.
Myself... I had pinned numerous pictures for inspiration which only put an added pressure in my subconscious to achieve a certain and perfect look. But now I'm mostly going with whatever I already have and it still looks presentable and homely to me.
I'm also loving how your place is coming together. Will pay a thorough visit. 😀
Go for the baroque ambiance, and keep all this beautiful carved / ornated stuff. If you can combine it with plenty of bright, white, sunny space - would be even better.
I'm going with a mix of both styles. Baroque in the drawing room and Minimalist in the living room.
We have a lot of windows, so it's sunny and airy. Although, summers are too long and hot here, so we avoid sun. It would be nice to have some sunlight in winters though.
White is only for walls.
Variety of styles is a pleasure, when the styles are nice. So far all the photos of your space shared, look pretty enjoyable to me.
