The Hagia Sophia Museum/Mosque is the official name of that buılding. It's using as an active mosque right now. But in the past that was different. Today's Hagia Sophia Mosque used to be a Hagia Sophia Church. The Hagia Sophia Byzantine structure built as an orthodox church in 1250. Hagia Sophia means "The Holly Wisdom".It continued to be used as a church even after Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered Trabzon in 1461.

It was used as a warehouse and military hospital by the Russian army, which occupied Trabzon during World War I.

The frescoes of the building, which was used as a mosque until 1960 after the war, were cleaned by the Russell Trust from Edinburgh University between 1957-62 and restored by the General Directorate of Foundations and turned into a museum in 1964.With the prayer of the time on Friday, June 28, 2013, it was opened to the worship of Muslims after 49 years.
What a incredible building who has a incredible history as itself! And i did not even talk about the architectural and artistic part. That's also admire people when you take a little look at it.

In addition to Christian art, the effects of Seljuk Period Islamic art can be seen in stone plastics, where a superior workmanship is seen. The most magnificent facade of the building is the south. Here, the creation of Adam and Eve is described as a frieze in relief. On the keystone of the arch on the south facade, there is a single-headed eagle motif, which is the symbol of the Komninos Dynasty, which ruled in Trabzon for 257 years. The main depiction in the dome is Christos Pantokrator (Jesus almighty) style, reflecting his divine side.

Guys i can talk for a life time about it. When i went there i could sense of past. All this years gone by gone but the feeling.. It's still there. And please go and see that place. I'll bet you wont regret about it. Even i feel so sad about damage what it had and some unthoughtfull person's behaviors i couldn't take my eyes of it. This building, whose upright stance never changes despite the blows it has received and the damage it has suffered, won my heart.
While i'm doing my research this web site became very helpful for me. [Source] (https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayasofya_(Trabzon)
