🆕 Photo of the week #134: The stones

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year
Hi friends... how are you..? I hope everyone is fine. I wish everyone success in their work.

A few days later I was finally able to add a post to the Steemit platform. First of all I am happy about it. Today I am going to compete in the Steemit platform. The contest title is "🆕 Photo of the week #134: The stones". As soon as I saw this contest, I remembered a very special place. That is the Sigiri Fort which has the most funny and historical value in Sri Lanka. I think those who have come to Sri Lanka know a lot about this. Friends, today I am going to bring you some simple information about a big rock that was used to build Sigiri Fort through this post.

Big thanks to my friend @WORLD OF XPILAR who is a #MOD from the #mister-omortson community who is hosting this contest.

First let's see what is a stone.? Stones can refer to many different things depending on the context. Stone is a solid, naturally occurring material composed of minerals. They can be found in different sizes, shapes and colors. Stones are often used for purposes such as construction or decoration. And stones can be called a type of rock. Examples of gemstones include granite, marble, quartz, and diamonds. Today I chose to mention some information about the big rock in Sigiriya. Let's ask about it now. Sigiriya, also known as the Lion Rock, is an ancient stone fort located in Matale District, Central Province, Sri Lanka. It is one of the most prominent and historically important landmarks in the country.

On a holiday with my friends, I went to see Sigiriya Fort. A few photos taken at that time have been added to the post. Sigiriya is one of the oldest masterpieces in Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya is a massive granite rock formation rising approximately 200 meters (660 ft) above the surrounding plains. The Department of Mines and Excavations states that it was built about 7 million years ago. King Kasyapa I, a ruler of Anuradhapura Kingdom, built a fort on this rock. It was called Sinhagiri after the fort was designed in the shape of a lion's body. Sigiriya was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its outstanding cultural significance and archaeological value. It attracts thousands of visitors every year. The rock served as a royal palace and fortress in the 5th century.

Today, only the lion's paws remain. But it still serves as an impressive entrance to the ancient palace. After reaching the top of the hill, you will find the remains of the palace complex including the foundations of various structures, pools, gardens and water features. Sigiriya stands as a testament to Sri Lanka's ancient engineering and architectural prowess. It is not only a place of historical and cultural importance but also a great example of ancient urban planning and landscape design.
