My wife calls it "painting with words." We have some ideas and concepts we noodle around inside our heads, and in time we get to form some words we hope portray the feeling and meaning of the moment. She's actually a better writer than I; I'm more dedicated and prolific. My mother wrote letters, because she grew up in the age of snail mail. And she was very good at it, too.
