Community Tags Needed? For Better Curation in World of Xpilar
WoX is the best community on Steemit and this is why we are here but, as a curation environment, it has space for growing. Below, there is an idea of how to make more people curate new content in WoX.
As an example. I like wildlife and street photography, I like watching b&w images and pictures of cats. But I am not always ready to go through all the diversity of WoX content to find what I prefer on the New tab. I guess there are people who feel the same.
So this is my suggestion:
- WoX Community should introduce official non-mandatory WoX tags to sort posts by topic.
I have watched all entries in World of Xpilar Community posted in the last 60 hours and collected statistics on what topics people post. Based on this, I suggest 17 WoX tags that will improve the curation environment and raise users' engagement.
WoX tags:
#wox-plants - Plants, flowers, fruits on branches, etc. Macro and close-up.
#wox-mushrooms - Mushrooms. Macro and close-up.
#wox-macroanimals - Macro of insects plus spiders, snails, and all tiny critters.
#wox-landscapes - Landscapes, seascapes, cloudscapes, etc.
#wox-wildlife - Birds, beasts, reptiles, amphibians, etc. in natural habitats. No macro of insects, no pets.
#wox-pets - Pets including exotic one.
#wox-cityscapes - Cityscapes, streets, buildings, architecture.
#wox-designs - Cool objects, like cars, collectables, clothes, patterns, abstracts, etc.
#wox-lifestyle - Staged photography about fashion, life events (weddings, birthdays), family portraits, selfies.
#wox-candid - People without posing. The real life of real people in the real world. Candid photography (wiki), documentary, street photography, reportage from public events, occupations, etc.
#wox-blackandwhite - Black & white photography.
#wox-drawings - Drawings *
#wox-paintings - Paintings *
#wox-digitalart - Digital art *
#wox-fineartphotography - Fine-art photography *
* I guess, we don't need these tags because we already have #art-venture by @art-venture
#wox-opinion - Posts about crypto, news, history, psychology, etc.
#wox-steemit - Posts about WoX and Steemit, contests.
#wox-food - Food and gardening.
#wox-diary - Diaries.
#wox-fiction - Fictional stories.
#wox-spanish - Entries in Spanish.
Altogether 18 tags, 17 new WoX tags + existing #art-venture
So benefits of WoX tags may be:
- It will make it possible for anybody to curate what they like;
- More discussions and connections between like-minded people in WoX;
- WoX will have many Trendy tabs (for each WoX tag) which will be more interesting than today's the only united Trendy of WoX.
Would be nice to hear opinions.

Hi David, thank you for your thoughts and it is great to have such feedback from our users. It is difficult to say if that will help to organize the posts according their content and topics but for curation purpose it will make it a but difficult. Like us we are able to look through WOX and #art-venture after that we already run our of Upvote Power but there are sometimes good works in #art too. I believe at this stage we need to see what will be the outcom eof the Steemit Community support program. They are due to produce a post likely today/tomorrow about the result of the applications and what will be then. Because if then SC01 will vote in community then it is better to have users under one tag, otherwise they are not see.
But we still can see what the future will bring :)

@stef1, @xpilar, if this is an open discussion, I strongly disagree that this suggested system a) embraces all of the content, b) has benefits.
nope! as steem still has more authors than readers and curators, it is less probable users will spend more time using a bunch of different tags that hard to memorize, to search for unique content within the community. far more probable scenario is that they curate their friends posts, the high pay-out posts, or the posts they pick up by some tags they used to before that.
I hardly can believe that new complicated tags ( a lot of them! and there will be more, cause these definitely dont cover / nail all the content spectre... life is far bigger!) -- can suddenly become a popular basis for curation activity. thjat is a one personal fantasy, a dream.
another dream. this is named 'wishful thinking'. in fact, if i used to look at the content using a well-known and common #blackandwhite tag across all the blockchain, using #wox-blackandwhite leave me two opportunities: swap to a new tag, or use both (i.e. do two searches instead of one). I can imagine easily, this makes my time-spending patterns more complicated. In fact I will do not do that. I can see me using my previous pattern I used to, i.e. part of the content, say, marked with #wox-blackandwhite by some users, will fall out of my attention, and in the end make less connections between like-minded people in WoX.

вся человеческая история, история деятельности во всяком случае, заключается в упрощении. при этом упрощении всякий раз шаг за шагом нарабатывается "внутренняя сложность", т.е. снаружи вроде проще - а на самом деле, все сложней и сложней.
то что вы предлагаете... якобы в целях "упростить" -- это на самом деле новое, масштабное усложнение.
как вы сами справедливо заметили, для всего "арта" уже есть art-venture. и я даже больше замечу, что любой человек, незнакомый со скрытой "внутренней сложностью", ничего помеченного данным тегом не найдет - ибо будет в натуре использовать тег #art
для всех ваших измышленных предложений насчет природных объектов, существует три тега тега: #macrophotography, #animalphotography и #nature. а еще есть #macro (который использую я сам), и #animals, #wildnature, plants, gardening... да черта в ступе! запомнить все эти разновидности и гибриды - а еще больше, пользоваться ими - не сможет никто, ни простые юзеры, ни кураторы, даже вооруженные шпаргалками.
писец, то есть аминь. задача непосильная и в рамках данных условий - неразрешимая.

sure! thanks god we have a free speech thing, and I shared my opinion from the point of view of a an archivist, image searcher and data storage systems architect,-- you name it.
Where I doubt: if many regular users want to curate new content on WoX with new tags or without them. There are mods and this is their work (and they do it well on WoX). I am not a moderator so probably should invest time in content instead of evaluating and upvoting new content in any community.
the key question is what is this for, at all. if you categorize information for curators (because curation requires this, for example? ...), then this is one thing, and here it is still possible to somehow formalize, to make a foundation-framework into which users will be driven and categorized their content.
but if you look from the point of view of the users themselves - no, a monstrous idea, an absolutely unnecessary complication. you could not embrace the whole world with your invented system.

Я же писал в посте, что теги эти должны быть не обязательны.

Используй два или три тега, если влезают в пять первых. Или выбери один. Или не используй ни одного.

вопрос с тегами далеко не так прост. ей богу, больное место.
что лично мне делать, как характеризовать мои посты тегами, я знаю.
и в силу этого, с некоторых пор, веду текстовый файл - только благодаря ему я и могу что то найти хотя бы в собственном блоге, не говорю уж про чужие.
большинство тем шире чем один, два, и даже пять тегов, факт. пример adobe stocks, который у меня пред глазами - для описания каждого фото предлагает использовать до 30 тегов.
предлагаемое вышеизложенное - еще раз повторю вопрос: определитесь, для кого делает хорошо. для авторов? для кураторов? тегов как не хватало, так и не будет хватать, как результативный поиск по тегам был невозможен - таковым он и остается. зачем менять одно нерабочее на другое?

Если речь про Adobe Stock, то до 49. "we recommend 15-35 keywords, although the tool lets you enter up to 49".

Хорошее предложение. Теги это наше всё, но практика показывает обратное. Работает всего первых пять (может уже и 4).
Теги конкурсные работают для организатора.
Кураторы WOX не знаю как именно ходят, я хожу по никам участников программы, на остальное меня не хватает. Если надо, просто просматниваю ленту сообщества.
Может я не прав.
Я был бы рад, если бы тематические теги реально работали, но их количество надо балансировать. Дробить до насекомого я бы не стал, система доложна быть максимально простой в использовании.

It is certainly great that you speak your mind and care about the community. In the end of the day it is all about how to make it better and last longer for all the creative individuals here.
