This Mudcrab farm just harvested their delightfully tasty crabs
I live within the groups of towns in my province which is known to be lower-lying and is actually serving as catch basin of extra water that will come from other provinces and that is not good for the reason that if there will be a widespread heavy rainfall, then our towns will have a not very pleasant "water world" scenario. I am just blessed to live in one of the elevated Barrios here in my town, so we do not get extensive flooding compared to other Barangays which experience floods as high as the upper legs, hip-high, or one storey high flood waters.
But of your Barangay neighbors would be submerged in that high flood levels, then it feels the same because you are just stuck in your place unable to go if extensive floods happens which is inevitable to happen nowadays because of the climate change. I can also feel the change in the weather today, it was not as cold as I anticipated it to be, it is more warm now compared to the past years because right now I am not sending as much time under the bedsheets, it is nice but in the other hand it will be another battle to beat the heat of the day in the coming months until the wet and rainy season if not the occasional bad flood season happen again.
It always is coming in cycles but there are changes indeed that is being felt especially here in my country alone which is in the Typhoon super hi-way where we experience more than twenty typhoons per year and I am praying not to get the "big one" to devastate my province but thankfully ever since my existence we haven't gotten such Typhoons with devastating enough strong winds here in my province but devastating floods which the origin was those Typhoons that are weak but brings heavy rainfalls.
Typhoons with strong winds are what I like to have because they do not bring heavy rains, however most of the time they would pull water from the southwest where those hot and moist air would form big droplets of water that when pulled to our country would just bring a lot of inconveniences if not damage to crops and property.
So either strong or weak Typhoons has their own bad effects particularly here in my old house plus the path that we take when I go for my dialysis, I just have to seek assistance to either my brethren from my church MCGI.org or the Barrio council chairman for using their transport service, tricycle and Ambulance respectively so that I can be able to get my blood cleaned which must not be delayed otherwise I will get in trouble deep.
Anyway, most of the rice farmers in the town that I go to for my dialysis session plus the other town near the coast many years ago had converted their rice farms to cultivate Mudcrabs. It is because the flood had gone permanent for their rice fields one day and never receded back, so they had no choice anymore but to farm mudcrabs in their former rice fields other wise it will be just useless to leave those flooded rice fields unused or vacant.
Some rice fields had been converted to either Tilapia fish farms or catfish farms but most had farmed mudcrabs which gave them more profit compared to rice farming because mudcrabs are easy to care and manage, you just buy baby mudcrabs and then row a boat across the expanse of the mudcrab farm which is always underwater to feed then fish and then wait for harvesting after some time. The mudcrab farmers have buyers from restaurants and hotels as well as other middlemen and vendors and that town now is known for the mudcrab industry which is thriving today because they are everywhere even in this roadside which I always take a photograph with and ready to raise mudcrabs again after this harvesting.
