My Side Of The World - Just Another User On Steemit

Hello everyone..

At the very outset, I want to convey my best wishes to each one of you reading this post for a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Hope 2022 is filled with success and development in your personal lives.

The year 2021 was a mixed bag for me. Jan-Feb-March was tough. Coz I had let go of my previous full time job on 15th of September, 2020. You must be wondering why I left midway into a month. Well it was my birthday and I didn't want to step into another year with doubts and uncertainties blocking my mind.

Lets go back to 2020 first. The thing is, I was working in the rural development sector of Assam, India in the capacity of a civil engineer. There wasn't much scope of promotion in that position, that was made clear to us while joining. So I decided to work and study for better opportunities elsewhere. However, when the pandemic got in during April-May '2020, our department fell under emergency services and so we had to work under tight pressure cooker situation. Travelling during Lockdown was tough. I was mentally tired. I couldn't afford to travel to my workplace with hiked motor fares. But my parents wanted me to cling on to the job somehow. So did my colleagues.

One of those countless travels I have made in public transport

Every evening, after I was back from work, I wanted to write a resignation letter and submit it the next morning to the bosses. I wrote quite a few of those but couldn't gather enough courage to submit, mainly because my parents would be hugely disappointed. Also, the tag of being 'unemployed' is a huge burden here in India. So I decided to continue despite my unwillingness. One morning in July that year, I convinced my parents that I was going to finally quit my job and focus on upcoming interviews and recruitment exams. I don't know how they felt but I was bloody determined to give it a shot. I submitted my resignation. Just then a senior engineer came up to me and asked, "Why did you meet the boss?" I explained him everything. He at once advised me against it. He told me that he would temporarily get me out of all this trouble by putting me in the Headquarters duty. I was little confused. Why was he so eager to keep me in? Finally I withdrew my resignation the next day after consulting with my parents, who were happy but I wasn't 'entirely'.

Two months had passed, now the new trouble that I got in was, I had to handle some of my previous assignments along with HQ duty, because my shift was not a permanent one. I was like, enough is enough. This is the right time. So as I mentioned in the very beginning, I left my first full time job on my 27th birthday. Once again, all my well wishers asked me to stay but my decision was firm this time.

From Sept to February, I wrote plenty of exams with half hearted preparations. I missed a couple of interview calls by margin of whiskers. In the meantime, I started doing tuitions classes for high school children, a few of them. In Feb-March, I wrote another exam with semi-moderate preparation. It went well. I hoped to clear the First Phase with ease. Then the second wave of Covid-19 started creating havoc in the country. From April-August 2021, once again Lockdown had to be imposed across major cities of India.

On 1st April '21, I started out with my Steemit journey. After a lot of brainstorming over the username, I settled on '@brahmaputra' which is actually the name of a river in India, that flows across my native state. Believe it or not, I kept Steeming 24x7 for three months at a stretch. I didn't bother what would happen by the end of the year or what was my purpose of leaving the previous job. I just kept engaging across different communities on #Steemit. I earned good returns in the first one and a half month. But then I read more, dived into the project, consulted a few of my Country Admin/Mods. They guided me on the right path, I have to admit. Really indebted to them. @sapwood, @neerajkr03, @rishabh99946.

But then, pandemic's second wave was very scary and heartbreaking for me as well. I lost two of my college friends, one, my batchmate and another, a very gentle senior. I can't forget them till this date.

This little guy's been an absolute sport during Lockdown2021

In the last couple of months of 2021, I have been quite occupied with some exam preparation and stuff like that. Just then, the results of the Feb 2020 exam was out. And I cleared Phase 1 like I predicted. They called me for Phase 2 recently. And you know what, God listens to your prayers. I cleared Phase 2. Hopefully I will start in my new workplace by the end of January (provided Omicron stays away). But I won't say I will be seeing this as my ultimate job, I will definitely be trying for better opportunities. Atleast now I have lesser headache than my previous job.

You know what I am an avid football enthusiast. Coming from a country mad for cricket, I found football as my next best sport in 2008-09 when my old school buddy Debajit introduced me to the English Premier League. And guess what, I at once fell in love with 'the beautiful game'. I began to admire Manchester United as the club of my choice. It's been over 13 years now that I am following the Red Devils. Early afternoon kickoffs, evening encounters or late night drama, I have witnessed them all. I remember missing countless of classes during my engineering days after watching football matches as late as upto 4 A.M. You see the dedication here is real. 😁 Don't tell my parents about that. 🤫

In November 2021, the Premier League's India-affiliated social media accounts announced a Diwali special giveaway contest. Fans were asked to nominate a friend of their choice and write about why he/she is so passionate about Premier League. I sent my entry nominating my buddy Debajit. And guess what, it worked wonders. Me and friend were among 75 pairs of lucky winners across India. It was a very happy Diwali for me, except the fact that my sky-lantern (which I purchased for $1 US) didn't go off as i had planned. BUT that didn't dampen my spirits.

So back to 2022, this 2nd day of January, I promise to be more regular than ever on Steemit. This year I will sort a way out to balance my worklife and Steemit in the best possible way. I want to build on my Steem Power and aim for 'Sustainable Development' of my profile with initiatives like #club75, #club100. I plan to feed the homeless and disadvantaged individuals in my city with meal boxes as regularly as possible. Giving back to the community which I have seen and all these years while growing up will give me utmost happiness. However right now, that's just a distant dream. But they say, "DREAMS DO COME TRUE." 🙂🤞

Thanks for your patience.
@brahmaputra.

That sounds great. Always try to live your dream, that is your hometown, does not matter what the other feels about it.
