Holidays and Gold Panning in Italy Part 2

Today comes the remaining part of my holiday from Italy, the prospecting days 5 to 8.

Day 5
I left a little later that day, I wanted to sleep in and then have breakfast with my family. After breakfast, we discussed a few small things and then I set off, but when I arrived at my spot, I was taken aback to find that local gold prospectors were working at my hole. After a short exchange in broken English, I went to a new spot. There it was back to square one. Building a dam, setting a channel and moving material. Even during the day I didn't manage more than 7 hours. So I packed up and went home, dusk was already setting in. At home I spent the rest of the evening with the family.

Day 6
Today I started early again, at about 7 am I was at my pit. This time I wasn't alone, the rest of the family wanted to come along and have a look at the water from time to time. For me it was the start shot for shot into the water and off I went. Today I had a lot of plans, I wanted to find something bigger. After 9 hours I was done for the day. I was done with the world, just wanted to take a shower, eat something and just sleep. My wife had a nasty sunburn! She was a little angry because it went on so long ;-) ;-) The shower still worked until I fell asleep on the couch at some point.



Day 7
When the alarm clock rang early in the morning, I thought to myself, "I'll stay in bed for a while today. I was still tired from the previous days. I had a good night's sleep, then breakfast, then I took the material from the previous two days and washed it out with the pan in peace and quiet. Around noon the rest of the group came back, they wanted to go a bit further away by car! I had finished washing out all the material I had collected and was able to weigh the spoils I had gathered by then.


Result 2.106 grams
Afterwards, I made my way to the high mountains to collect some Steins samples and do some testing on site. I soon discovered that access to the site was more difficult than expected. All the markers I had set in advance could not be used, as most of the paths were blocked. I then decided to leave my car in the valley, pack a rucksack with enough to drink and just set off on foot. The ascent was tedious, again and again I took test pans, also set 2 -3 times even the gully and prospected what lower.


(Nice big boulders, there I could then take the first test pans, but without success. I think I would have to go deeper here to get to the gold line. If the boulder doesn't block everything).
So I continued towards the summit. I kept taking pans or setting the gully, every now and then a flitter got lost in between, but nothing worth mentioning


After a good 3 hours I took a small break to drink and eat, to regain my strength, the view was just wonderful, the only sounds you could hear was the raging water and all the animals.

After my break, I moved further upstream and had to take detours because it was simply not possible through the river.

At some point I found a spot where I set my channel and prospected the depth a bit. I simply dug a hole about 1 metre deep at a dingen stone and lo and behold, the biggest on the trip.

The result of the prospecting in the high mountains amounted to a total of 0.147 grams, the largest of which I weighed individually, as you can see in the picture. At around 5 pm I slowly made my way back towards the valley, again and again I came across great spots where I definitely have to go again. After about 2.5 hours I was finally at the car and totally exhausted. I just wanted to go home.

Day 8
Today it was time for me and my family to pack everything up, have breakfast again before heading back to Germany. I was still so exhausted and was lucky that my mother drove the longest part of the way back, so I could sleep a little. The return journey took us 14 hours, although we took the same route as on the outward journey, only with much less traffic. Nevertheless, we were all happy when we arrived home after the ordeal. I had a lot of fun on my trip and would do it again and again. I hope I was able to take you with me on my trip and that you enjoyed it.
