Little treasures of the Gran Sabana (II) El Abismo / Pequeños tesoros de la Gran Sabana (II): El Abismo

There is a very special place located a few kilometers from Santa de Uairén where there is a fantastic natural border between La Gran Sabana and the Amazon Rainforest, this place is known as El Abismo.

It is a kind of plateau that rises to around 1000 meters high and from there it is possible to see the vastness of the jungle in all its splendor, contrasting markedly with the vegetation of the Gran Sabana, much more fragile and arid.

It is said that La Gran Sabana was once a jungle like this and that it was probably eroded as a result of a great fire, from El Abismo perhaps we can imagine that past of leafy trees among the majesty of the ancient Tepuis.

Reaching this viewpoint is a real reward for hikers and although the level of difficulty is relatively low, only for that visual it is worth getting there, away from the main route of the great attractions of the Gran Sabana.

It is a very enigmatic and highly mystical place, where with some patience and keen ears it is possible to listen to the sounds of the imposing Amazon jungle.

I could observe from afar the coming of the rain, faithful companion of this great green steppe and it still seems to me a fantastic communion

Hay un lugar muy especial ubicado a unos cuantos kilómetros de Santa de Uairén donde hay una fantástica frontera natural entre La Gran Sabana y la Selva Amazónica, este lugar es conocido como El Abismo.

Es una especie de meseta que se eleva a unos 1000 metros de altura y desde allí es posible divisar la inmensidad de la selva en todo su esplendor, contrastando notablemente con la vegetación de la Gran Sabana, mucho más frágil y árida.

Se dice que La Gran Sabana alguna vez fue una selva como esta y que probablemente fue erosionada producto de un gran incendio, desde el Abismo quizás podamos imaginar ese pasado de árboles frondosos entre la majestuosidad de los milenarios tepuyes.

Llegar a este mirador es una real recompensa para los senderistas y aunque el nivel de dificultad es relativamente bajo, solo por esa visual vale la pena llegar hasta allí, lejos de la ruta principal de los grandes atractivos de la Gran Sabana.

Es un lugar muy enigmático y de gran misticismo, donde con cierta paciencia y con oídos acuciosos es posible escuchar los sonidos de la imponente selva amazónica.

Pude observar desde la lejanía el advenimiento de la lluvia, compañera fiel de esta gran estepa verde y no deja de parecerme una comunión fantástica.
