A snow bird. Why?

Bullfinch. This bird is considered the most beautiful in winter in our area. Indeed, a bright red-breasted bird, especially on a sunny frosty day.
In Russian, the name of this bird (Снегирь) comes from the word "snow" (Снег). Why is this so? After all, this bird is absolutely not like snow.
It's really simple. Most people see this bird only in winter when it appears snowy. When winter ends, the snow melts, then the Bullfinch disappears. Many people believe that this red bird lives in the cold North and with the onset of cold weather Bullfinches move south, for example, to us, to Vyatka. But these people forget that sometimes in winter we have frosts over 40 degrees.
There is a second version. I read that bullfinches change their color. They are red in winter and gray in summer. But this is an even funnier version.
Everything is much more prosaic. In summer, there is a lot of food for birds in the forest and people in the forest do not see them, but sometimes they only hear their singing. In winter, there is less food for these birds in the forest and they move closer to populated areas, to feeders that people hang near their homes. I have also met bullfinches in the wild in the summer. I even took a photo, but now it's hard for me to find it.
And here is the same gray "summer" bullfinch. It's a female. Nature has made the rooster boys bright and beautiful, but the hen girls pale, gray, and plain. And they don't know how to change their appearance with the help of some additional manipulations to attract guys. On the contrary, guys try to show themselves from all beautiful sides.
Yes, of course, the Bullfinch is a very beautiful bird and I used to consider it the brightest bird in its region. But.... Birdwatching brought me even more beautiful birds that I had never seen before. I will say more - my friends, looking at photos of birds, ask me - what kind of bird is this and where does it live?

How lucky you can take such great photos my son would envy you. He hates it that he can't take photos of the birds (of prey) and wildlife he sees but it will take long before we can buy a better camera. Now I regret I get rid of mine years ago.
