Marvel's Spider Man 2 - Web Pew Pew!
Haven't posted any gaming lately but couldn't pass this one. We are talking about Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The first Spider-Man game I've played in the last decade.
Let's go through some details of the game first and after that we move to the gameplay.
The game can be found on Steam here Marvel's Spider Man 2 currently being sold for 59.99$.
Game trailer:
Be Greater. Together. The incredible power of the symbiote forces Peter Parker and Miles Morales into a desperate fight as they balance their lives, friendships, and their duty to protect in an exciting chapter of the critically acclaimed Spider-Man franchise on PC.
The game was released a couple of days ago, 30/01/2025, the reviews are mixed on Steam, mostly because it's a port and people have issues running the game.
As far as I understand this is a port from consoles, people are complaining on the forums that they have issues with the game, frame rate drops, bugs etc. but in my case everything went ok so far.
I haven't played a Spider Man game since 2004-2005 when I got my first PC, I remember playing some 2001 Spider Man game at that time the movement, mechanics and everything felt wow, judging by the current one, it's been a huge improvement (like it should be, after 20+ years).
Now about the gameplay, you can find it on my Youtube channel down below:
The gameplay shows the first mission of the game, named Surface Tension, here Peter Parker and Miles Morales need to save the city from Sandman.
The action takes place in Manhattan and the game takes you through the controls and combos of the game while fighting the first "Villain". It felt weird playing it via Mouse and Keyboard, definitely gonna switch to a controller next since it's a port the feeling might fit better.
The mission starts with both protagonists roaming between the city buildings to the emergency area, the city looks awesome, alive and full of movement around.
Roaming through the city!
The emergency was pretty far, it took me a couple of minutes to get there, the fact that you can shoot web everywhere and hang from building to building feels so rewarding and smooth, and all that traveling shows how big the city is and how fun shooting webs is.
Screenshot from above, city feels alive, cars and people on the street.
The first encounter with the Sandman felt weird, didn't expect something this big as a first villain, usually games give something small and easy to accommodate the user and keep the fancy things for the second half of the game. Here's screenshot facing him. You can also see his health at the top of the screenshot.
The game doesn't allow you to just fight the boss directly, you move through multiple phases of fighting, firstly you can throw some debris but that doesn't do that much damage, Sandman manages to hit you and you start running through a building floor trying to escape him.
As the fight goes on, in another phase it looks like Sandman can also spawn enemies made of sand with melee and ranged attacks. It's easy to fight them, developers probably added these so you could get used to punching, evading, shooting webs and so on.
Both characters have special attacks that can be used after a powerup bar is filled in, here's a GIF from each one, both attacks are pretty powerful and 1-hitted everyone around.
Peter Parker
Miles Morales
Now the fight goes back and forth, you learn the Sandman's weakness and kite him to a rooftop of a building where a tank of water is being used damage him pretty badly but this doesn't take him down completely, the final blow is being dealt by a combo of the two, charging and using some sort of beam to take down Sandman.
Words can't really describe the action you should really check the gameplay there are way to many things taking place at the same time, I bet there are things that I didn't even notice while playing.
This is going to be the first part of the game, each level will be it's own part if it's going to work like this I want to see how youtube handles these as well.
Until next part I am wishing you a great day, stay tuned for more!
